Post subject:  Appliance & promotion question
Hi all,

My girlfriend and I just bought a Rosewood model yesterday. When they asked if we wanted 3 appliances, or $1500 in upgrades - we chose the appliances.

Does anyone know what type of appliances they are?
Will we be able to choose different types? (ie: bottom-mount freezer).
Do they offer upgrades on the Appliances?

I can get a decent deal on appliances, so I'm wondering if I should call them and change my choice to "$1500 in upgrades".

We chose the black appliances, and they're actually quite functional. I believe the dishwasher has 4 different settings, and the stove is a self-cleaning oven. Nothing fancy, but certainly not dirt bones cheap either.

You can also use the promotional certificate for discounts on washers, dryers and freezers also. :)

we bought a rosewood last year and are moving in 2 weeks and 3 days :) Can't wait.

anyway we went with the 1500 for the appliances. They were small appliances... so what we did is upgraded the fridge and stove through the brick and just paid the difference. It all depends on what you like.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you guys but, we got appliances _OR_ $1500.

Can't I use that $1500 on house upgrades (floors, cupboards, etc) and then go buy my appliances wherever I want?

And, when did you guys start shopping for your appliances? I assume Mattamy would have to provide me with the dimensions so that I buy the right size?

Jongo,

That's correct! If you decide NOT to get the appliances, you will have $1500 towards upgrades and you can put that towards anything - carpet, cabinets, hardwood, etc.

And yes, you will have to find out the measurements of the standard appliances from Mattamy before you shop. We only got this information at our design appointment - which was only in August (about 9 months before our original scheduled closing date.)

We also went with the standard black appliance package. As RizzoLee said - they are not extremely fancy, but they will certainly be functional.

Hmm.. maybe I'll take the $1500 upgrade money then :D Anyone do upgrades that they find they can't live without? I'd love to hear it!

You can use that 1500 ( which works out to be 1601.72 with taxes in) on anything at the brick. We initially weren't going to take the deal but did and upgraded our fridge and stove. the dishwasher will come at a later time as there is only 2 of us.

Thanks for replying :) Yes, we have signed something for that, but I called them because they said we have 5 days to change it. The guy told me that it's not a big deal and I can always change it later.

Another question...

Will Mattamy let me run my own ethernet drops around my house? I am in Computer Networking so I don't really want to pay someone to do it when I can easily do my whole house myself within a couple hours.

Don't bother asking Mattamy customer service or the design centre team about this. They will tell you that you cannot do anything yourself but they'll be happy to charge you $100 per CAT5 run to include it on your upgrade list.

Talk to your builder when the house is being built. I plan on doing this.

I'm not sure if your house will be factory built or not (mine won't). If it is, it will be much more difficult for you to do this yourself (probably impossible), as they won't allow you into the factory.


Wow, that's very tight. I've spoken to many people who did it themselves. I can get a 1000 ft. spool of CAT6 cable for $100, why would I pay them $100 a drop..

Yeah hmmm... I'm sure inspection won't be a problem because it's low voltage cabling. You don't have to be licensed to run it. Maybe it's worth a try.

This is a judgement call you have to make yourself, with your eyes wide open. I know some people who did this, and things worked out fine and they were happy they took the risk. At the same time though, yeah you are taking some risks. Please don't see this posting as me suggesting you do one thing or the other. Also since this is a public forum, be careful about what you post as you don't want someone in the future to use it against you.

We did do some things ourselves back in phase 12, but I don't want to post about it right now. Maybe in 10 years or so ;-)

does anyone know the standard sizes for fridges? I want to upgrade mine, and I can never get through to the design centre.
