do it. We have a thistle bay and it was the best move we made. We have had frineds over who did not get it and regrett it.

larger cupboards, bigger windows, 7K over 25 years is not a lot and will help with resale. i beleive Cliff or another agent commented before that they were looking for T-bays with 9 foot ceilings since so many people did not do it and it was a big mistake.

Definitely do it. As both a realtor and HV resident, I have clients and neighbours who did not pay for the upgrade and regret it each and every day. If you are trying to meet a tight budget, look at removing items that can be done later.

If there's any way to swing it, my opinion is that you should. As mentioned above, it's an upgrade that gives you not just the increased sense of space, but additional light re. larger windows and additional storage space re. the taller kitchen cabinets.

If you can't do it it's not the end of the world. Most homes don't have it and are perfectly nice homes nonetheless, so I really can't see regretting it each and every day myself as long as you go into your decision heads-up, having weighed the pros & cons.

That said, we're going to get 9' ceilings in our own new home for sure. It's something we would like re. the space and light, and unlike many other upgrades it can't be added later. We can always add hardwood and granite down the road, so we're going to sacrifice on the costmetic upgrades in favor of the structural upgrades we want. Your mileage may vary; best wishes whatever you decide.

I thought first floor 9' ceilings were now standard and the option was for the 2nd floor?

They are standard on the 46's and up, but are an upgrade option on the 36's.

We bought a Thistle Bay II and we have our structural appoitment on Dec 10. We picked up the price list from the Design Centre and 9 foot ceilings are like $6,500. We are so confused whether we should get them or not. any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
For the ground floor, it's definitely a good upgrade to go with. For the second floor, it's more iffy (but still very nice). Since the Thistle is a 36', I'd definitely go with the upgrade to 9' on the ground floor if you can swing it from a cost perspective.

On the townhouses I know it's not an option. On the semi's it probably isn't either, but you could still check. The problem is if you upgrade your half to 9 foot ceilings, what happens to the other half of the building? You can't have one part of the semi higher than the other part.

One thing I never thought about, what if both sides of the semi wanted to go to 9 foot ceilings. Couldn't mattamy do it then? Curious to see what they'd say.

I forgot to mention that the back patio door is made bigger too, it is 8x8 if you get the 9 foot ceilings. If you get the grills in it, it looks awesome!
