what the...

you'd figure it's LESS work to leave it flat... why do they charge you money for this? sheesh.. these upgrades that i wanna do are really adding up. very expensive, borderline GOUGING.

Jeger, I'm with you on this.

But I suppose this is one of those personal taste decisions -- some people absolutely love the smooth ceiling look and some just don't care. We're in the latter camp and we've not regretted it in our current home as we really don't spend much (any) time looking at the ceilings.

Mind you we've never had an issue where we had to completely repair part of the ceiling -- I agree that would suck. The only thing we did find is that when you paint you can't clean & pre-treat with TSP etc like you can on the walls, so we had to use an oil-based cover-stain in some places and that was a bit of a pain. But not a $3500 pain. :)
