Thanks.

I see that the resolution varies by channel between 480, 720 and 1080 but all are interlaced. Is the difference between 1080i and 1080p visually noticeable ?
Surely 480i resized to 16:9 looks grainy and does resizing on a channel by channel basis becoming a pita ?

Most TVs you can have it either not stretch it or have it do it by channel you select.

I don't care for stretching the picture as with many LED LCD TVs now it will not give a burn in. As for the difference between interlace and progressive, you cannot tell the difference and this will look better than any HD channel you have on cable or satellite as this is not compressed but has full bandwidth sent into your home.

Thanks Pilothz for the info. My antenna has been down since May 24. I cannot beleive that CBC has dropped to 720p.
That sucks!

Re: Interleaved streamed as progressive on a newer TV.

That makes sense.

Time to give this a try.

While I contemplate an antenna installation...

Does anyone know where the Hi-Def channels are located when you connect cable directly to your TV'S ATSC tuner as opposed to going through the STB ? (The channels are in the xxx-xxx format, i.e. regular digital CBC is 81-6.)

Thanks.

For anyone getting FOX, how high is your antenna? Mine is at around 19 feet and I think its missing it cause its just a couple of feet too short. Im getting CBS and ABC from Buffalo, but not FOX.

I Agree, Cogecco is a rip off. That is why we only have their internet, and bypassed the external filter. we now have about 100 channels of analogue and digital.

I also find Fox most reliable at night, rather than during the day. My antenna is right on the peak of my roof, on a 6 foot tripod, so I would guess its about 35 ft in the air.

fox broadcasts from grand island. My understanding is that it broadcasts east/west in a figure 8 pattern as opposed to circlular which is why it is harder to reach. Elevation will not necessarily assist this, the quality of your antenna will help.

I am no OTA expert but have a pretty good grasp on it from the 3-4 years I have been doing it and have countless hours of research into it.
I have never heard of clearstream until I just googled it based on your question. I have always considered Channel master to be the best. Your antenna has a maximum range "up to 50 miles" There are antenna's out there like the CM4228 that are bigger but can hit 60 miles but they are more directional.

I have a 4221 knock off antenna and a CM pre amp and my fox is usually pretty solid. I have not had it hooked up since May when I finished my basement but it is all ready to go once I connect the cables. My antenna is also in my attic.

I'll make it really easy for everyone.

1. By a ChannelMaster 4 or 8 bay antenna
2. Put it as high as possible on your roof or attached to your house (don't put it in the attic) - facing South East.
3. Get a pre-amp of some sort.
4. Hook it up to your TV and volia.

You will pick up all of the Toronto stations, some of the buffalo stations and some of the stations out west (like CHCH).

That's really all there is to it.

There is nothing wrong with putting it in your attic. I have 4 friends who did this as well, and I spoke to numerous others before I did the same.

What is your reasoning for saying this??

There are many benefits of putting it in the attic.
1. No ugly grill on your roof or on the side of it making your house look ghetto
2. No roof penetration either by the Antenna mount, or the cable coming into the house
3. You left out properly grounding your antenna! It will fry your electronics if not grounded, no need to ground if inside.

The plywood and shingles have minimal effect to your signal.
