Thanks for posting that - I was wondering about the CMHC rates. I had asked my mortgage rep if what we were paying included the extra discount for having an Energy Star home, and he glossed over it.

My sales rep at work said that Genworth/CMHC will catch it, and not to worry about it.

My guess is most mortgage reps are not aware of this program, as they do not teach us that in 'mortgage school'. I submitted my request for the rebate on Feb 22 and have not received it as of yet. I just called them today to follow up and they said that is was just mailed out Wednesday.
Looking forward to getting the cheque!!

I have question on 10% CMHC refund on energy star homes.

I got mortgage and CMHC in 2005, but it was not an energy star home. I sold this house and now moved in to an energy star home. I ported my mortage to my energy star home.

Am I eligible for 10% CMHC refend now?

I spoke with CMHC and they asked me to submit the claim. I sent the claim form. Let us see when will I get the refund.

I believe this refund is only for those paying CMHC insurance as this "refund" is only a discount on the insurance premium paid.
As far as applying for this, our mortgage broker is completing our application with our mortgage so we are already credited the amount of the refund off the CMHC premium we pay. This is great because afterwords there's not waiting for a refund.

Yeah, I found out about it from the in-house rep at the builder I work for (different bank than who I went with).

She also says that if my mortgage person misses it, Genworth will realize it later and correct it for me when they see it's an Energy Star house. I also assume I can attach a note when I apply for the 10% refund just in case.

I e-mailed kelly spencer to get the R-2000 certificate for our Mattamy built Village townhome and her response was:

The homes that were built in Hawthorne Village Phase 10 were not R-2000 certified homes and therefore, we would not provide an R-2000 Certificate.

Any ideas on the next step? are the homes Energy star rated and we would just need to get an energy assessment completed by an NRCan qualified energy advisor?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The certificate we received from Mattamy did not say R-2000. It only mentions that it is a certified Energy Efficient home. So I'm not sure if it's actually R-2000 certified or not. But we sent in our application and received a refund anyway. So you could try just sending it in and see what happens.

From what I understand, the actual Energy Star home came in as a standard in phase 15 of HV.

If you were phase 10, did you pay to upgrade? If not, I don't believe you qualify, sorry! :(

what if i put down 20% do i still qualify?

Did you pay the CMHC Premium -if you put 20% down I doubt you did - so you are not eligible - its only if you pay the Insurance premium on your mtg.

we're still waiting for our rebate - it's been months

Does anyone have a phone number???

I waited for months -did you get a letter back from them stating that they couldnt find you in their system ? or any correspondence from them - I waited for like 3 months-but they couldnt find me in there system as I didnt give them the CMHC/Genworth file # which is on your commitment from your mortgagte lender - so I called that in - then they said that my street name didnt match - at the time of purchase my street was called Street K & Lot # - this is the number for CMHC 1-800-668-2642 - if your mtg is genworth insured - then google there website--

Genworth is 1-800-511-8888

Often kit is the address, as we dont have the municipal address at the time of approval, and though we update it when we get it, only the bank updates it, not the insurer.

Give em a call, very easy to work with. Or you could give your mortgage person a call, ans they can make the calls for you. We have dedicated account managers so its easy for us to get quick answers and results.

If you get a rebate, how does this work? Is your mortgage adjusted, do they send a cheque??
