This time of year is the saddest for me. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and being in a country that does not celebrate Thanksgiving in November is difficult. I am sure any immigrant could relate to this.

I have such fond memories at a child having the whole family over for Thanksgiving, then after the meal we would get out all the Christmas decorations, and watch Christmas movies. Then on Friday morning the entire family would get up at 3am to go shopping and fight for all the good deals. :)

Thanksgiving for Americans is a big deal and being an American in Canada is difficult around the holidays since my family is so far away. Regardless tomorrow I am cooking a turkey and all the fixings and Friday I will go shopping, like I do every year the day after Thanksgiving. Come to think of it, maybe I will drive to Buffalo at 3am to get there for all the sales.

So to mark the occasion I did add my small American flag in my flower pot on the porch. My way of saying, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Jennifer

I don't blame you for missing it. I went to school in the states was lucky enough to be invited back to friends houses for the Thanksgiving festivities. I remember Thanksgiving 94 in Sterling Colorado watching the Cowboys play the Dolphins in the snow....drinking beer and then sitting down with my friends family for a big feast. Sure beats hangin out in the dorm by yourself for 3 days. So from one Canadian who experienced the
warmth and friendliness of Americans many times during this time.......

Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Well it makes me happy to know that I am not alone. :) Regardless, yes I agree I can still celebrate it here, it does not matter really were you are geographically. I can make it work no matter what. But I will still be sad for family, but next year I am going to UTAH!

Well my understanding is that our Canadian Thanksgiving is very different than the American Thanksgiving. We obviously celebrate in October but I also understand that the trade off is that Christmas is a much bigger deal here than in the U.S.- I have heard this from family that has moved to the states. Thanksgiving is huge in the states and Christmas is our big holiday.
