Try Credit valley...MH is one of the worst I have ever visited. Staff is not very helpful.

Admitted? No. But you can look through other threads for ER horror stories.

At MDH my ER wait was 1/2 the time of Credit Valley, but the care seemed lazy and inadequate, not to mention the ER building looks like it's falling apart inside.

As for being admitted in general, haven't been.
I hate CV, always poor experiences there with nurses.

Admitted late last year of minor surgery and in for 3 days to recover. The nurses and the surgeron where awesome.

Luckily I have not had a bad experience with Milton ER. You can always complain about the wait time but for the most part that is out of their control. If you are going to complain call your MP and MPP (athough our MPP is already making lots of noise regarding the lack of a proper sized hospital for Milton). You get prioritized base on severity and if your status changes while you are waiting you need to keep the admitting team updated. We have a little one with a very high fever (104+) they didn't even ask us to sit down ... took him right in (first time parents).

Also wait times would be much improved if people used emerg strickly for emergencies ... I saw 1 lady in on a Sunday because she had a sore throat ... when the admiting nurse asked about it she had had it for over a week .... why it became an emergency on a Sunday I'll never know.

Milton has a lot fo walk-in clinics and people should use them if it is not a true emergency! Now look what you've done .... I'm venting.

I had my first born in Hamilton, my second in Burlington.

Hamilton was the worse experience of my life. I mean that literally - the worst 5 days of my life, ever. Yes, it’s the place you want to be if something goes wrong, but the nurses there were bossy nightmares. “THIS is how you must feed your child, and THIS is how you must hold them, and if they sleep for longer than 2 hours, wake them up”. I swear that the nurses waking my kid up every 2 hours helped establish poor sleeping patterns for life. Heaven forbid you tell them you don’t want to breastfeed (my child wouldn’t latch). Dirty looks all around. One nurse threatened to call children’s aid because my wife was drinking a coffee while holding the baby.

In Burlington, they recognized that we were the parents and could make our own decisions. They made sure we were informed, and then backed off. Totally cool experience.

After waiting for several hours in emergency the doctor told me I probably had an ovarian cyst. This was without an ultrasound. She had all my symptoms on record. I went to my family doctor who correctly diagnosed me with c.difficile. substantially more serious than an ovarian cyst. I was off work for 3 months. My doctor couldn't believe it.

This is coming from a not yet parent. You will realize after your first how much easier it is to be closer to home.

We have been to Milton Emerge a few times and our son was born there also. All nurse were fabulous, friendly and courteous! Couldn't have asked for better.

I was there last week with a friend who had a severe allergic reaction (unknown to what). Her face was completely swollen, lips were huge, face was red, eyes were puffed, hives everywhere and her throat was starting to get tight and itchy (which is why we went in the first place...just to be safe). It's supposed to be Triage. We sat for 3 hours. FINALLY, saw a nurse. Nurse was like "are your lips normally like this?". Yes, her lips always look like botox gone wrong, esp with the added touch of the REDNESS and hives. Awesome. Ended up waiting for another 1.5 hours and finally left as it was 430 am. Never did see a doctor.

You'd think if someones throat was starting to get tight and the reaction was that bad, she'd be near the top of the list to see a Doctor?

Stay away from Milton hospital like the plague. I've discussed my experience on here before.......stay far, far away.

I've heard from so many people that their ob unit is great for delivering babies, and I assume that with so many good things that that unit is fine, but as for anything else, other than the odd break or stiches....get out and get out quick.

My husband has orders (yes orders! haha) that at any cost to drive me or my kids to another hospital if something goes wrong....even if it is risky to get us there.

My dad managed to cut two of his fingers off in a snowblower a few years ago. He put them in a bag of ice and the doctor at Milton hosp told him there was no way they could reattach them – that it was “impossible”.

So he took his fingers and the went to a Toronto hospital where they promptly reattached them more than 24 hours after the accident. He swears he’ll never go back there unless he’s having a stroke or a heart attack.

I'll keep it short, 2 years ago went into emergency with abdominal pains (burst appendix, didn't know it at that time).
I was sent home after Dr. had a look at X-ray and Ultrasound results and said "it's only muscular pain, take some Tylenol"... three days later I was under the knife in Oakville with massive infection, collapsed lung and 50/50 to live.

What's up with this hospital? At first I was glad to know that I live so close to a hospital but now I think I"ll be going to Oakville or CVH. Anyone know why it's this way? Do hospital's have to recruit good doctors? Does a small hospital like Milton's only get those 'leftovers' that no other hospital wants? Can this change if we get a big expansion?

It might have something to do with the fact that the MDH ER is primarily staffed by family doctors/GPs who work 1-2 ER shifts a week. At least that's my understanding, that Milton only has one (?) full time actual ER doctor. I like my family doctor, but in an ER I'd really rather deal with someone whose primary focus is emergency medicine, not working the ER because it's a requirement to maintain their hospital privileges.

My son fell and hit his chin badly on concrete. We took him to MD. They stitched his chin and took x-rays. Couldn't read them so told us to come back in the morning. Go back, and they re-did them. The Doctor said he still couldn't read them so we had to go to Oakville. Go there, get them done and have to go back to MD for the results. He broke his jaw. The Dr's response was "call your facial surgeon". Who the heck has one on stand by? He then starts to flip through the yellow pages and finds one in Oakville, calls him up and hands me the phone because he doesn't understand what the guy is saying. It was not a language barrier.

My daughter cut her arm climbing a fence. Took her to MD and they refused to stitch it. Wouldn't even put butterfly strips on or anything. I took her to my doctor the next morning and she was livid. She has a nasty looking scar now.

Now we go right to Oakville, unless it's a broken bone and Dr. Bichoff is in at the fracture clinic at MD. He is awesome.
