Personally...I have only 'white' lights that rim the front of my house...I am so tired of the snow/cold etc. that I pluged the lights back in after my hubby turned them off....I just thought it made the house look nicer...and I need 'nicer' these days!

However...that being said...this weekend and next week the weather should warm up nicely and I plan on taking them down.

Just my 2 cents

Mine are still 'up' but they are not turned on...they are getting taken down this weekend hopefully with the mild weather!

I was dropping my daughter off this morning to school - I drop them off on Winter - and there are more than a couple that still have all the 'trimmings' up. One place has all the red ribbon on their garage doors - you know - to make them look like presents, and all over their front porch and windows. I actually cringed when I saw it ..... that should have been down a MONTH ago ...... lights I can barely tolerate - but when you still have your CHRISTMAS TREE up, and I can see it clearly from the road - that's getting to be way too much for me to handle .... I took all our outdoor greenery down about 2 weeks ago - it was about 1 month after Christmas they came down (well they needed to, they were turning brown in some places) .... and all my indoor decorations came down December 27th & 28th.

Not everyone puts up lights just to celebrate Christmas.

I have lights up and love to use them to celebrate my religious holidays, birthdays, parties etc., so why take them down and put them up each time. Just leave them be, especially if its not bothering anyone.

Lights don't have a religion attached to them; they're just lights.

whats next? complaining about the colour your neighbour decides to paint their house or garage door?

I agree- this is a ridiculous complaint - I think its actually kinda nice to see the lights still up - why do they have to come down just beacuse Christmas is over?

Although I must admit mine are already down - they were after Jan 1st - but I thought that was a little too quick - but I dont mind them..

I don't mind seeing lights up at this time of year, because it is afterall still winter, and VERY cold out. Christmas wasn't THAT long ago. What bugs me is when there are lights up in June or July, because people are too lazy to take them down.

We put up alot of lights, on both levels of our roof, and it takes an entire day, but we always take a day to also take them down. But, we haven't yet, because it's been too cold, and there has been way too much snow and ice on our roof, that it isn't safe to be up there just yet.

Now, if the lights are still on in the Spring, then I saw people have more of a right to complain!

Laurie

^why? Am I not allowed to have lights on my house to celebrate things that mean something to me? So what if I turn my lights on in June, how does this in anyway infringe on you? Lights add beauty to a house, if they didn't NO one would ever put them up.

Who dictates that lights can and must only be on for Christmas and nothing else?

You are allowed to have them up anytime for any reason for any length of time.

I'm going to put up my Happy Friday light

I must admit I am not a big fan of Lights after the holidays but I do believe this is Canada and we can do what we like.

I don't understand why people try to control other people. If someone wants the lights up and on then have a blast. It's your house do as you wish.

There are a ton of worse crimes then this

:D

Well this board never ceases to amaze me. I must admit

When I saw this topic, I figured I knew what most of the replies would be even before opening it. I mean christmas lights being left up is a yearly and traditional bitch fest amongst most people.

So to see that now everyone is happy to leave them up and turned on is an interesting turn, considering some of the regualr things that get bithced about here. I figured this would have driven everyone batty.

This kind of hate messages are insulting.
Which X-mass you are talking about. For orthodox it is at beginning of January. Traditional orthodox New Year is in mid-January. I know many orthodox families in Milton. Why do they have to take their lights off at the end of December?

It was damn cold for last few weeks, why I have to take our lights off just because some tacky slobs don’t mind their own business.

We have New Year decorations around our house. Last time we were celebrating Chinese New Year. It was …two weeks ago. Now family day is coming. Glasses, oops, lights will go up again. We will celebrate it too. It is dark in winter and I don’t see any problem to turn some fancy lights on.
We don’t have Santa at our porch but we are keeping reindeer just because it is winter. Same as we keep artificial birds during summer and solar lights.

It is tacky to not realize it is just not only about your X-mass anymore. Half of new Milton has nothing to do with your x-mass at all.
