Warning: they told me the tech would call to make an appt. when he could come, to make sure I was home, as he needed into the basement. He never called, just showed up. It was a fluke that I was home at that time. I can only imagine the hassel that it would have been if I missed him and had to rebook.

Bell is responsible for everything up to the grey demarcation box at the side of your house. They can do this with or without you being at home. Once you have a line, you can look after the rest yourself. They will bring the line into your house (access to the basement) for an extra $75... Or you can have someone else do that for you (hint)

The tech did have to come inside my house. Although this isn't the case for all houses. If I understand correctly, there is a grey box that says 'Bell' on it that they have to access. On some houses this is installed outside, on some in the basement. It was in the basement in my house.

Aha! Yes I remember that one.. One of the two Mattamy houses that I did that actually had the exterior demarcation box down in the basement... I am guessing this was a result of someone doing the labour who was not familiar with what normally goes in place. But either way, you got it. I think I did mention at the time that if they do need to service it, they will need access to your house and unfortunately that means you have to be at home :(

That's great news! I didn't like the idea of being without a phone for 4 weeks. Thanks for posting Rocchina.

No problem :D !
I am sorry to belabour this post . . . but, I just got the new "date" for the connection of our phone service which I ordered 2 - 3 months ago (we had our previous number totally disconnected almost 1 month ago) and I was given a date for August 20  !!! Have others been extended for the activation of their service?
FYI
For those still planning their move, they said that if you call Bell "today" then you would not be connected until the end of September  !!!
Rocchina

Bell is so inconsistent. I scheduled mine over the Internet yesterday (requested September 9th) and today received a confirmation for installation on September 6th. Of course, we don't move in until the 9th, so I will have to get them to reschedule the install.

If I were you, I would call them again and complain.

I just confirmed with Bell for the 6th of September. whatever...strike, shmike. They are on speed dial until then.

I will be investigating digital telephone service with Cogeco when it becomes available in Milton. Apparently, it is available in Oakville. Anyone familiar with the service? I don't want to jump from one pile of  to the other.

One thing is certain. My cell bill will be uuuugly! sucks. Better start shopping for cloth diapers...sorry Mason. Why do the little ones always have to suffer?

Signed,

The "R" in J & R. (Rob)

They seem to be on schedule for Bell ExpressVu hook ups.
Not certain about phone, but I didn't think a tech had to come to the house for home phone?

Hi Bonnie

Yes, the Bell tech has to complete the wiring to the demarc location, then you are responsible for the inside wiring (unless you pay Bell to complete it for you).

One thing of note, we were able to get Bell to change our install date pretty easily and they provided an early date and a 4-hour ! (8:00AM to 12:00 noon) timeframe to complete the work.

ExpressVu is a completely different type of installation so I'm guessing they use different techs.

For the phone, if it's a new house, someone will have to come to connect from the street to the demarc on the side of your house.

I wonder who we'll call to help us wire our phone lines. You wouldn't happen to know anyone Greg who does that type of work?

As has been elluded to.. yes.. I do telecomm installations specializing in new houses.. :)

The majority of the houses I have done have been Mattamy houses, and I feel pretty comfortable with them.

Feel free to ask me questions about your telephone service, networking, TV cable..

I also do Garage Door Opener installations.. also lots of Mattamy.

I even drill holes for your water line for your fridge/dishwasher.

I heard the same thing from our neighbour.

Sounds like you can get a special deal if you prod them enough.

Cell phone with evenings & weekends free, 100 minutes during the day (don't know if that is total for 7 days) for $10bucks...thats a $35 savings.

Tim

We have heard the same thing from one of our soo-to-be neighbours. Strange thing is, Bell confirmed the installation of our landline for September 9th...guess it's the old left hand vs. right hand...

Apparently, Bell has come to realization that installation of our phone would be difficult to complete without the required infrastructure in place :o

So, as compensation, they offered us a bundle package on Telephone and Cellular service when they install the landline mid to late October...they just don't get it do they :?:

I just called today to make sure that they have my installation set from when I did it months ago on the internet...NOT...it wasn't even in the system.

So I now have them installing on SEPTEMBER 15!

I asked them if they are sure and the answer was yes. But it may be "the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing" syndrome.

Now I have to contact Mattamy to find out if there are any problems that would prevent Bell from installing.

The attendant even gave me my new phone number. yah.

Go figure.

On a side note she was saying that if you want internet bundles with the satalite (SP) TV, you should do it before the end of the month, because they are removing that special.

If I remember correctly it is

1 satalite
2 receivers
2 remotes
90 channels w/ time shifting

for $119

Internet for

high speed ~$50 bundle it for less $10
internet light 4x faster than cable ~$30 bundle it for less $5
internet basic 2x faster than cable ~$20 bundle it for less $3

Tim... when I did my order on the internet, I got an order number, did you get one?

My experience has taught me to ALWAYS wirte down the order number, that way it does not matter who you talk to, they can track it by the order number.

Did you record the order number for your Sept 15th installation?

OOPS

Double OOPS  She didn't give me one
