Hi, we are moving into our new home by the end of next week can anyone plz lend some ideas over how to save the new carpet from getting ruined by dirty boots during moving through movers?

how many people do you have doing the move ? if you have a covered porch get a pair of people to bring thigns to the porch then 2 other people to take things into the house

nice ideas...we would be having only 2 movers unloading the stuff and they are unwilling to take off their shoes, we don't care about much about the ceramic tiles on the ground floor, we just want to protect the carpet of stairs and rooms upstairs....does home depot or Rona sell some thing particular for this matter? something long enough to put in the stairs and still movers work safely on the stairs? I mean we are not looking some thing slippery in the stairs...any ideas?

You can buy rolls of plastic from home depo and lay them out on the floor. They sell it in the painting department for covering floors. The problem is that water pools/runs on plastic. Not sure if they sell drop cloth’s, but if they do it would also be in the painting area.

Alternatively, you could just let them dirty the carpet, and rent a steam cleaner (home depo has good ones). They are very effective, and would only run you 30-40 bucks for a day rental.

Anytime we've had movers they've always provided fabric runners for the carpeted areas.

When I moved in there was spare carpet laying around. This was probably extra from the builder so I used that. You will also have a ton of cardboard from all the things being delivered so that will work nicely as well.

My movers went outside looking for cardboards ... which they laid down to cover the carpeted area. For upstairs as cardboard would have been slippery, so they took off their shoes to save themselves from falling as well That worked out well for us.

I bought a roll of carpet plastic.
It's adhesive on one side and doesn't ruin the carpet when it's removed.
We made runners in all the hallways with it.

Also, I went to Medical Mart and bought a box of medical booties, (blue disposable paper-like booties w/ elastics). You slip them over your shoes.


As a result, our house was pretty clean on move-in day even though it was raining buckets outside.

The movers i hired also followed the exact same principle as tigerchamp2004 mentioned.

Did you purchase a Mattamy home, if you did just call them and they will arrange someone to drop of nice neat 5' lengths of cardboard, for you to lay down, to help protect your floors.
Have fun moving, don't forget to offer those poor movers something to drink!

You definitely need to come up with something. Personally I wouldn't blame the movers for not wanting to remove their shoes. Unless you want to pay them for hours more work. Imagine if they had to put on and take off their shoes with every trip!?! It would take you forever although, it would be nice if they either had a suggestion or even better if they provided something to protect your carpets. Let us know how it goes.

Booties are probably the easiest - then you wouldn't have to worry about the liability of them tripping on a blanket or cardboard slipping while they are carrying heavy furniture.

We bought the roll of plastic and it worked very well!
