What are some of the yearly tax figures that you are paying in Milton?

If you have lot or square foot size, that would be benificial too

Information on how property taxes are calculated:
http://www.buildinghomes.ca/index.html? ... taxes.html

and specifically for Milton:
http://www.milton.ca/template.php?selectID=123

Miltons rates:
http://www.milton.ca/corpserv/Taxrates2004.pdf

So right now, about 0.96% of your assessed home value. Please note, the assessed value is NOT the same as your purchase price. Assessed values are calulated independantly based on market averages.

If you home is assessed at $250000, then 250000 * 0.0096 = $2400

Disclaimer: Always consult your municipal tax authority (which I am not) for the exact details.

It all depends on MPAC.

http://www.mpac.ca/pages_english/default.htm

In my case I received 3 updates in 1 year. Each one doubling the previous value.

You make it sound as if your friend paid back taxes.. Meaning it was assessed, and they did not update the assessment to include the value of the new residence. Is that what happened?

That is what happen to my friend in Mississauga. She was not even sent a tax bill!!! Then when she called, she was only given the "land tax". Her property will not be assessed until 2005! The amt they estimated for her was approx $5000-6000. She moved in 2003.

Keep the money aside each month, as if the bill was for the full amt. This is the best advice I have. My lawyer gave us the same warning.

Pretty scary if they cannot get around to assess it and update their records for a couple of years, and then back charge you.

I'm going to have to look more into that.

Hi Elizabeth,

You can find this information on the Town of Milton's website

http://www.milton.ca/template.php?selectID=123&orgtype=Living&cselect=5

It also includes information on the tax rates so you can estimate your tax payments.

Derek
