why dont you just look this stuff up in the phonebook

thought i would make this a community effort... And when you look up the restaurants online, you can not get a separate list of chain, and non-chain places.....

For Chain, add Wendy's and Quizno's
For Independent add Harrop's

What a GREAT way to get free food and the best service... by becoming a critic.
SMART move, Wyl! Let me know when you go so I can co-critic and test their taps.

Milton Pho, Thai house.

We eat out often and our goal is to try all the rest. in Milton, so far I think we covered most of them except for the fine/casual dining ones. I don't think those place would appreciate my young kids now, but sh*t those place will cost me a fortune when they get bigger.

You should add a new category for hole-in-the-wall, unknown/unassuming places. I'd say Louie's Diner is a great place for breakfast, Greek food and charburgers (it's my favourite place to get a burger made with love - too bad they close after 4pm), or the fast food stand at the Canadian Tire entrance (they make good poutine).

What about a sub-category under the chains for Franchises as they are often owned by local residents and not 'corporately run'?

ie....Shoeless Joe's a Chain however it is individually owned by the Franchisee...

I don't see how it would make a difference. Even an independent franchisee would have to comform to the expectations set by corporate. So, even if Shoeless Joes is independently owned, it would still be pretty much like every other Shoeless Joe anywhere in Ontario.
