Don&Carmen,
you guys must be so excited! only 10 more days!!!?

We certainly are however we're having some difficulities with our bank right now so it's not really making the whole process easy. Hopefully we'll have everything sorted out by the end of the day.
Can't wait to meet our neighbours.

has anyone else had problems with their hardwood stairs? we got the bruce mocha stain and there are little droplets all over the place and... on the first step there is a huuuuge dark splotch in the shape of a foot. on the last step there is a chunk out of the stair...

so not happy.

So Everlasting, to not get your stairs stained you basically dont pay them the $8xx stainin option and they leave it unstained? Just curious how much more or less is it to get it done afterwards if you dont mind me asking?

When we had asked not to have it stained they told us that they would still have to varnish it. That's how we got sucked into paying to have our staircase stained. Not that we didn't want to but back in February we didn't know what colour hardwood we would be installing after moving in... so we went with black. They used to just leave it many years ago but they will not do that anymore is what we were told

I'm curious to hear what Everlasting has to say.

PS- Has anyone had trouble changing their address? Canada Post shows our address but when we sign up to change it the website keeps telling us it's invalid and since we were originally supposed to be moving in today...?!?

I'm having some trouble with the address change too. One of our banks won't allow me to do it online because they can't find our street in their system, Toronto Star doesn't have the address either. Haven't tried Canada Post online, but I did go into Canada Post to set up the permanent address forwarding service.

We had our PDI this afternoon with Christine and she was great. She took the initiative to point out lots of 'little things' like scuff marks, paint blobs etc. We also inspected our hardwood and that seems to be where a lot of the work is required. The cleaners didn't do a good job with it so it was very difficult to tell whether the marks were dents, scratches, paint etc. We marked a lot of areas on the hardwood and Christine noted on the inspection that the stairs needed another coat of staining. We're very please overall, this PDI was definitely a better experience from our previous house, which was not a Mattamy.

im really happy to hear that they help point out things to you. i was really nervous about missing things on the PDI and hating myself for it later. lol.

a friend of mine is actually one of the vista warranty reps, so she said will try to put together a list of common problems in new homes, so i can keep my eye out for them on the PDI. if i get this, i will post it for everyone else too.

Sounds great LesleyRichard- i'd love to see the list too. We're second time home buyers with Mattamy but it's been 5 years so I figure we can use all the help we can get.

So we got finally got our keys today.

Went to the site office around 1:30pm to pick up the keys and the package and was told the they were running a little behind - with cleaners, trades people, painters etc. When I met with Mike at our lot, the painter was still there doing touch ups and the cleaners just showed up. Since there were so many people at the house, Mike suggested that he would come by Friday to walk through the house and review all the items that were listed on the PDI list.

When I went back to the house to clean, noticed a lot of the items were still outstanding (paint chips, holes etc.). For those who upgraded to hardwood stairs, I would suggest wiping each stair and making sure there are no nails sticking out - found one on one of our stairs and would definitely send someone through the roof if they stepped on it. It has been marked/covered with green tape to be addressed hopefully tomorrow.

Overall, we're very happy with everything so far, cleaners and trades people are very nice and courtesy which is always a bonus. Seems like there were lots of closings today on Gooch Cres., hope to meet everyone soon.
