I just need to vent to my local sounding board.... I will be following the guidance on this forum and fighting the ticket.

My mom came by for a visit yesterday, and to help babysit her grandchild as we got a few cleaning chores done around the house.

She arrived sometime mid morning, parked on the street in front of my house, and was ticketed in the early afternoon.

Her van may have been there for right around 3 hours when it was ticketed. (I'll have to check my phone logs from when she arrived, and the timestamp of the ticket)
The tires were not marked.
AND THE VAN HAS A HANDICAPPED STICKER AND SHE'S WEARING A CAST. lol

I know laws are laws (I'm on these forums supporting them often) - The purpose of this post is partially to vent, but mostly as a warning to the rest of you that the hounds are out in full force with stop watches, targeting disabled old ladies.

I normally park in the garage when I have guests, but one of the household tasks WAS cleaning out the garage (lol)

"Can you come over with your cast on and visit with your grandchild, while we clean out the garage? Thanks! oh, that'll be $30."

In this case, I'll take your place and say 'LAWS ARE LAWS'. :)

Really though, handicapped sticker shouldn't mean anything beyond you can use the close spots (and still have to pay). I think what we've found with parking enforcement is they are really hit and miss. If someone calls in, you'll probably get a ticket, and then its other random times. I had a kiddie party on Sunday with 10 cars up the street for 4-5 hrs (average) and no tickets.. haha, thank god.. thanks for the presents, here is a burger and a $30 receipt for your donation to the town of milton...

hehe THANKS :)

The handicapped sticker comment was more of a Murphy's Law type of comment (definitely agree it's not a free pass)...

A previous post of mine:
"We can only hope that self-righteous repeat offenders get ticketed more often than the light grey folks, even though all have broken the rules."
(please note - light grey referred to the 'grey-area' discussions, NOT related to skin colour)

oh well.. so much the odds playing out

I am on McDougall and there is no parking on my side of the road. Anyway I wanted to check if the baby seat was level so decided to park on my side just for 5 minutes to see if the baby seat is level. When in to get the baby seat, came out and had a ticket! My first parking ticket ever and that too outside my home.

I hope parking was allowed on both sides of McDougall (its so wide)

I've got all the pictures.... :)

Zeesh - agreed.
Hospital parking is way too pricey, but at least the money is going to the hospital itself (I can only assume????)

Our last stay there, the hospital staff actually recommended we park across the street (North West corner)

The majority of people disagree with you. Milton has a solution for your problem, you just need to convince your neighbours to go along with it. I think the system works for the most part pretty well. The only thing I could see being a happy medium is overnight parking == ticket, that way you don't have people leaving their car on the road day in day out. I'm pretty sure thats how most of guelph works.

Milton's 3-hour parking limit probably made sense when people had 8 car driveways, but with postage-stamp size lots in new subdivisions and a single car driveway in most homes, this no longer makes sense. I do understand that we don't want to turn our roads into a parking lot for people but this is still a bit draconian. The town must figure out a more reasonable limit.

You are aware that you could clean all that crap out of your garage and put your car in there right??

For the record, I have a double car garage WITH one side elongated and a nice big storage area at the back.
My parking spaces in the garage are always empty. We always park in there, especially during the winter months. I was cleaning out the storage area at the back, and installing a ceiling bike storage / pulley system.
I also brought up some wood from the basement and clearly needed the room in the garage to prevent a 12 foot 2x4 from going through my wife's windshield.
Then after the cleaning, I swept the garage clean.
All that in a few hours.
Are you saying I can't take my cars ofut of the garage for a few hours to tidy and sweep it?

And yes, I bought a house with ample parking. You have a valid point but are going after the wrong person - On the plus side for you, not knowing me means you haven't had to endure my 900+ posts that so many others have suffered through. lol

I may be wrong, but I believe all parking proceeds at MDH goes back to MDH for equipment.

I checked haltonhealthcare.com, and they explicitly say this at the top of the page, but specifically under Oakville (although the rest of the structure is the same for each hospitals parking.

If the parking fees do go to the hospital, then I will not complain about the rates. If I am wrong, then Zeeshan is 100% correct in complaining about very high prices.

Just a note that you are limited to 18 consideration per vehicle and not household.

With 2 cars that gives you 36 and with most people having 2 cars nowadays you can advise your out-of town visitor to switch if need be.

A few years ago, a friend got close to 2 months as he had a family member moving in for a short period of time and they needed the extra space...not sure if they still grant those.

Another solution is to buy a house in old Milton! Just a few more weeks and we'll go from 1 1/2 spot to 4 + garage.

cheers,
mat

BTW Fredd75 said he'd take a picture of the non-marked tires...they don't chalk the tires anymore...they go by the valve stems and mark it on their notes. Then come back 3 hrs later to see if the valve stem has moved. (I love being married to a parking enforcement officer, not for Milton though LOL!)

If they cannot provide their notes in court then your ticket is dismissed. Just to be juvenile...I HATE Milton's parking enforcement...really is the "Mickey Mouse" operation of the town, and could use a few pointers from larger municipalities.
