This incident has been bothering me all evening. It may not be a big deal to some, but it is to me.
Today as I pulled up to the mailboxes at the corner of Derry and Scott to get my mail there was a woman at her box getting her mail as well. As I was about to get out of my car, I saw her look through her mail as she was standing there. I guess she decided that she didn't want the Ikea flyer, because instead of bringing it home with her and putting it in the recycling or the garbage, she just put it on top of the mailbox and walked back to her car while it dropped to the ground, and just drove away. It makes me so angry that some people have such blatant disregard for their fellow neighbours, neighbourhood, and more importantly, the enviroment!! IMHO she should be ashamed of herself.
Ahh...I feel a little bit better now)
(Hope I'm not being to harsh  )

She put the flyer on top of the mailbox? That's awesome!

I live 3 hours away from mailboxes and can see them from the deck. I often see people just toss flyers out. If you go to the mailboxes on Scott by the union gas line, you'll see a huge pile of those flyers on the floor. Ticks me off.

It actually pisses me off enough that I am putting a large recycling bin there for people to throw flyers in.

I usualy pick up a few flyers and will definitely help clean the area if there is a blue box there.

I hate junk mail as much as the next person, but i just put my unwanted flyers in the outgoing mailbox lol

I call these people ignorant and uneducated. My rant, people who are too much of a lazy ass to put their shopping cart in the little cart garage. As a result, the carts roll into peoples' cars. The hair on the back of my neck goes up and so does my blood pressure. Again, ignorant, uneducated, AND lazy.

In Tiny Township, a large area north of Wasaga Beach along Georgian Bay the fine for littering is a whopping $5000.

yes....but have you ever seen anyone enforce a littering fine...anywhere??

I've seen people litter right in front of police or other officials, and nothing.

My HUGE pet peeve is cigarette butts. No offense to anyone that smokes, I'm not attacking that...I'm attacking flicking cigarette butts on public property, on roads, etc. I don't understand why some smokers feel that flicking an arsenic laced filter onto the street isn't the same as throwing a McDonald's bag onto the road. Or maybe they do that too....

I almost wound up in jail myself when while walking along Main Street, some idiot flicked a LIT cigarette butt out of their window, and it landed on my son's shoulder. I've also had them land inside of my car when I had a Jeep. Nothing pisses me off more.

Yesterday evening at Rotary Park, there was a butt right on the outside circle of the splash pad (where the water doesn't touch it) in the middle of the afternoon...and it wasn't even snuffed out either, it was still red hot and lit. Who in their right mind DOES that? So that my 17 month old can step on it?? Thank God I make the kids wear their crocs for reasons like that....

OH! And contractors leaving them on my lawn. I swear the first time I find a butt in my toddler's mouth while playing outside heathwood is going to find it in one of their mouths before I leave the site office.

I'm glad I'm not the only one this infuriates (and I don't even have kids).

I think smokers toss their butts out the window simply because they don't want to be reminded of their filthy habit by looking at all the butts accumulating in their ashtrays. Smokers have more respect for their cars than their own bodies. I bet a butt tosser would be the first to complain if they saw someone spitting out their gum on the road.

And even just people walking the street. Neither I nor my wife, no one in our immediate families or close friends smoke, yet each week I pick up 5-10 cigarette butts off my front lawn.

The key as mentioned is that these people are lazy and generally-speaking, inconsiderate A-holes.

Use your ashtrays... throw waste in the garbage... put unwanted mail back in the mail box if you don't want to bring it home to the recycle box... leave the handicapped parking spaces for those who need it... use some common sense. That's all it takes.

I am sooo with you. I think there should be a law that allows people to stuff the cigarette butts down the throat of all those smokers who throw them out without any repercussions. Sometimes I think about going around picking up a whole bunch of cigarette butts and throwing them into people's cars when they throw their one butt outside.

I was in the rockies a few weeks ago, beautiful waterfall, etc enjoying the fresh mountain air, when some jerk lights up and blows smoke in my face and that of my 6 month old son. Needless to say I let him have it. That guy was good enough to understand his stupidity, but most people don't!

Oh, here's another one for you. Have you ever seen someone stop at a red light, open their car door and place their drink cup on the the ground and drive away! Nice. A friend of mine picks up the garbage, goes up to the people who litter and says " I think you dropped this". Sometimes this works - sometimes not. At the very least she gets a stunned reaction and lets them know that someone is watching.

ohhhh love it. I do that too, and my DH gets pissed with me, saying I'm starting trouble. Maybe, I guess :P

Driving up to the cottage on the back roads, I can't STAND when litter comes flying out of the car ahead of me...not only does it almost crash into my car...but who do these people think should be the ones to clean up after them?? It's pretty self righteous that you think that someone should have to pick up after you.

Anyhow...I lay on the horn in those situations....and if I get the opportunity at a stop sign or red light....I will gladly remind them that perhaps they could clean up after themselves.

Gees...I've been pretty fiesty the last few posts on this board...I'm not normally like this.....I guess a few hot buttons for me right now :)

There have been a lot of good topics lately and yes, some people have been 'fiesty' but overall most of the discussions have been intelligent and respectful.

For the people who are fired up about something, maybe it's time to dredge up the 'ol "What grinds your gears" thread....

We were at Darien Lake last week. We stayed till the park closed and when returning to our car we couldn't get over the state of the parking lot. There were piles of garbage everywhere. It was like every car just took all their garbage out at the end of the day and left in the parking lot. Totally disgusting. I've never seen anything like it at Wonderland or Ontario Place.....how hard is it to walk to a garbage bin? It would never even occur to me to dump my garbage in the parking lot.
