Yes we need change but I've said this morn than once on here...when we moved to Milton 6 years ago we knew full well that one day Milton was going to eventually be the size of Mississauga. We (my wife and I) are fine with that. It just needs to be planned properly. Perhaps change will lead to better planning. Don't worry, I'll be voting for change.

That's easy....pathetic voter turnout. How low was the voter turnout last time around? Was well below 50%. And those that did go out and vote were probably friends of the current council. Voter apathy! This needs to change, especially at the municipal level.

I'm a huge supporter of smart growth. We should try to develop as European type of city, where people don't need to buy a second car to get around. City must sustain itself, and at least 75% of Miltonians should have a job within town boundaries with appropriate salaries. Definitely we must attract several large companies to create job opportunities and tax revenues. City should spend money to build income generating properties. That’s why I strongly support a new Theater, due to cultural expansion and income possibilities. We cannot allow them to overdevelop residential housing, because in times of high unemployment and economic slowdown house values will decrease due to large default levels. Also without large income producing properties people will face tax increase every year and nothing can offset it. Having a smart growth will increase properties values. I know that it will mean higher property taxes, but now you also will have substantial equity in your house that you can invest into income generating enterprise, eg, stock, mutual funds, real estate, business. Interest that you would pay on that loan is tax deductable, so people will actually become much better off.
Identity is also important. Milton must not become a part of Mississauga. It has to have an image of desirable place to live, with job opportunities, entertainment, large hospital, beautiful parks and infrastructure.
Downtown core has to be redeveloped and we must have entertainment centers so people won’t have to go away to have a good time on a Friday or Saturday night. Public transportation should be available so people could take a bus to go out with friends. This will eliminate drinking and driving issue. Also, people will be arriving from outside of city to spend their money here. I was doing marketing Research for South 202 restaurant, and 52% of the visitors were coming for outside of town. All this will be generating revenues to avoid tax increase and business opportunities for everyone.
I know that town has only so much revenue to implement its development and with all fairness Milton has one of the lowest tax rates. At the same time I see waste and lack of long term planning, even though it’s getting better now.

I think this is not a bad way do develop our city. Unfortunately I don’t see anyone taking major steps. Seems like they are putting a puzzle together while everyone has own picture in mind.

Let me know what do you think?

I went for presentation about grow in Milton at the city hall.
None of the HV-HVE current consuls lives in HV-HVE or even in Milton as it is.
None of the province politicians who dumped this plan at Milton lives in Milton.
All of them are nothing but bunch of NIMBYs.
They don’t want the grow in their places.
I like Oakville, Newmarket, Aurora, Burlington.
Mississauga is overgrown city. Here is nothing good at this city for me.

Really do we need to start campaigning this early? the election is nearly 10 months away, there is going to be enough smoke a bull plop then to satisfy, 10 months of it just seems tiring.

I think this is reasonable time frame.

Most likely if someone (who lives in HVE /HV or at least in new Milton) will decide to go for consul they are going to be new for this.
They will need more time to make their final decision and to check if where are enough people who want to vote for them.

We could also ask if Colin B has any plans to move to new Milton.

I totally agree with the smart growth and that should include JOBS as well. The long commute is unhealthy, unproductive and environmentally unfriendly. We shouldn't just aim for a new Tims to service the growing population. We should aim for corporations who provide us with jobs in the town (or, should i say: soon-to-be-city?). If the council doesn't press for more job-creating companies to settle here Milton will become a sleeping community with huge gridlock because of us trying to commute to Mississauga, TO or out West. Don't get me wrong: without Milton allowing the builders to build new houses I wouldn't have been able to buy mine so I'm thankful for that. But I do have concerns about residential overgrowth.

I think we need to clean house and get people elected who are more forward thinkers and who actually live here.
Isn't it too early, you asked. I think it's almost too late. Almost all of the land had been sold to the developers. Did you know by-the-way that Milton sold the land to Mississauga that is between 9th Line and 407 for a few million?
Don't worry, you can count on me to keep the hype alive and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Hi Zoli & Kathy and other posters

Thanks for the comments and ideas.

Just one clarification. The Town does not own land in the 9th Line corridor, the recommendation (see attached link)

http://www.milton.ca/execserv/agendas20 ... proval.pdf

is to transfer this ribbon of land from Highway #401 to #403 between 9th line and the Highway #407 which is only 200-300 metres wide from the Town of Milton and Region of Halton to the City of Mississauga and Region of Peel. The City of Mississauga already owns about 1/3rd of the area bought from the Ministry of Government Services in the former Parkway Belt area which they are planning for future parks and recreation facilities.

As part of the recommendation which still has to be approved by the Province, the Mississauga and Peel will be compensating Milton and Halton for the costs of the roads and future assessment lost through the transfer. Milton staff are recommending these funds be placed in reserves for future budgets.

ps. all Milton and Halton councillors live in their communities and I can see the new homes being built in the Vista, Fieldgate and Heathwood Homes areas from my windows.

OK. We are in Ward 1.
http://milton.ca/execserv/Wards.pdf

Consuls for Ward 1 are

Barry Lee
Moffat (not Milton) Ontario

Richard Day
Fourth Line and 407

Brian Penman
Apparently has two addresses.
One in North old Milton, another at Britania west from Tremaine.

Sorry, but I have to repeat it twice here.

It looks like none of those consuls seems to be even close by where Milton (as city) actually is.
And most likely they are not able to see from their homes even single building in whole Milton and especially Vista.
Perhaps only if they will “vote” to dump the eyesore at hwy 25 and Derry.
