Patrob,

Our home is scheduled to close in March and we are considerating doing hardwood floors for our main level and the hallway on the second floor. We got Mattamy to stain our stairs using Mirage Java and we would like to see if there is similiar color for vintage. We really like the Baroque hand scraped however. We would like if you are able to give us a quote for doing the flooring for us. Please see below our floorplan (we've enlarged our family room and deleted our Den).) We wish to change our breakfast section to hardwood floors as well (currently in tiles, but i'll ask the builder and see if they can switch to carpet instead). Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delay in answering, just got back from little retreat.

Yes Baroque will be a very good match. It's available in 5" & 7" hand scraped & now also available in 5" non-scraped. If you can send me your e-mail address, I will forward the quote there, thanks :)

Hi Patrob,
How much do you charge per sq. ft. to install? I am looking at about 1200-1400 sq ft. mostly square rooms. Also, do you include screwing down the subfloor? I am thinking of getting moka maple stain hardwood.

Thanks!

We charge $2 sq. ft. for domestic species for straight installation. Some exotics & specialty products (engineered) are more.
Everything like installation on diagonal, borders/designs, floating/glue down installation, re-fastening sub-floors, removing carpet,
quarter round, raising nosings, etc. are all extra. So every job will be evaluated accordingly.

If we have to fix a small squeak or sand plywood joints, that would be at no extra charge. We also make our own reducers to save the home owners some money :D

Hi Patrob,
we're interesting in having hardwood installed after closing.
Just wondering how you go about creating your own reducers/ Transitions? and if your abutting tight to tile (looks like in some of the pics) is there enough room for expansion?

It's a trade secret   As long as there is enough room for expansion at the walls (if possible) & you maintain proper humidity levels, you will have no problems with expansion. If you have concerns about wood expansion, look towards engineered hardwood like Vintage 3/4" Solid Sawn Eng. which pretty much eliminates any movement.

We had engineered hardwood installed in our current home (HomeDepot roughly 1/2") and we were told we had to have the bulky Tmold installed for expansion.
So we could have a tight transition to the tile?
If I can get a smooth Transition installed with Engineered, I'd go that route ..keeping things greener i guess.
If you've got any images of your engineered installed please post.
:D :D

:D :D

Of course that's what HD will tell you because they want you to spend the money on the T-molds :) Yes, the transition to tile should be tight.

I remember you like the Baroque floors, so here are some recent pics :D

I will also try to find a close-up pic of the transition to actual tiles so you can see how tight it is.

Hope this helps :D

We love Mirage Red Oak Charcoal.

You told us quite awhile back that Vintage made a colour similar.
We went and looked and your right, its very close.

We also found one from Superior Flooring.

Can you offer any advice between the 3 companies if one is better then the other etc.

Superior is the cheapest for us to buy, and Mirage is the most expensive... but not a huge difference between them all.

Any advice is great!
Thanks!

Patrob those pictures are superb! I absolutely love the look of the baroque floors. That colour looks similar to bruce mocha- is there a baroque hardwood that would match that colour or come close to that as that is what our hardwood stairs are stained in. Can you tell me what the approximate cost would be for a room that is 16' 4" by 12'. Thanks so much.

I guess I know my colours  :)

I would go with Vintage. Like you said it's well priced but it's the highest in quality! Their finish is a lot more clearer & looks more natural.
Mirage & Superior has textured finish & I find the Superior finish a lot softer.

Bruce Mocha is lighter in colour. Maybe because of the light reflection on the pic it looks similar but in reality Baroque is a lot darker. Unfortunately there is no perfect match on handscraped to Bruce Mocha. Vintage Chariot http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/2163 ... iotle6.jpg is the closest in colour to Mocha & it does come in 5" eng. planks. I will PM you more info :)

patrob, I'm planning to get hardwood stairs through Mattamy and do hardwood floors on the main floor afterwards (not sure if we'll do it ourself or hire someone like yourself :)). We're looking at the Bruce hazelnut stain on maple. Is that a stain that you can easily match? And do you think that with maple stairs I'd have to stick with maple hardwood floors? Or do I simply need to match it with a hardwood that has similar "grain"?
Thanks for your help and expertise :D

Sure we can match that stain very close :) We recently matched almost perfectly Bruce Maple Cappuccino stained stairs, which is slightly darker than Hazelnut.

If you are paying extra for maple stairs, then yes you should def. go with maple hardwood floors.
If you don't like maple floors, don't get maple stairs & get oak instead plus oak is slightly cheaper. Some exotics will go well with maple stairs.

Thanks patrob! I will definitely go with the maple stairs then. May I ask approximately how much you charge per sq ft for maple hardwood? Do the exotics and hand scraped hardwoods cost significantly more money? The hand scraped looks so beautiful but I don't know if it would match with the maple stairs anyway :? .
