oh, and never, ever take a plea where the Crown offers to drop your fine (and tells you it's a good deal 'cause it's no points). You are allowed to accumulate up to 15 points in your driving career, so 2 or 3 points is nothing! And, points only stay on your record for 2 years.

It is the INSURANCE you have to worry about. Getting a ticket for doing 15 over, is the same for doing 20 over. It's a CONVICTION and your rates may go up. Nice eh? For doing something that's not dangerous (on JSP), you become a higher risk.

Go to court, but before you talk to the Prosecutor before trial, check to see if the officer is there or not. If he/she is, take the plea deal 'cause it's tough to win. If he/she is NOT there, DO NOT plead guilty. It will be thrown out. Although, most officers attend court these days.

You can all cite the laws and subsections under the HTA, but this "blitz" is pure bullshit. I am very angry to learn that the police service knew about this change. And they know full well there is no danger doing 70k on that stretch of road.

I could not agree more, and I wish there were some sort of recourse action for us to take on the matter.

That was a pure blantant cash grab that had absolutely nothing to do with road safety. It was merely a final farewell to a great cash cow for the Halton police.

It's nice to see people agreeing with me 3 threads and 9 pages after the original post.

Clearly, it was decided over a month ago that 70 was a safe limit.
Clearly, it was decided that police would blitz the area days before the signs were changed.
Great job, fellow villagers!! now what??

How about sending 2 spray cans of fast-drying enamel -black and white- to the Region chair and the top cop. Include a note explaining that in future you expect one of them to arrange same-day service on approved changes to speed limits. Copies to all Region councillors and the Champion of course. No? OK, just a thought.

I wonder if there would have been a month delay and a speeding blitz if the road in question had been, for example, Bronte Road south of Dundas (near the Region offices) rather than JSP.
