Hi,

I purchased a new house recently and claimed the Home Buyer's Amount in my tax return. I filed my taxes about three weeks ago and today received a letter from CRA regarding my claim for Home Buyer's Amount in my tax return. Did some one else received i too? If yes then what documents that you sent to CRA. One of the thing that CRA is asking for is "receipts for survey costs, land transfer taxes, legal/notary fees, fees to secure a mortgage". Is this one of the document that the lawyer mailed along with title insurance etc.

Thanks.

you can attach a copy of your closing costs/statement of disbursements that your lawyer gave you on closing showing your purchase transaction.

Jessica :)

Is this for first time home buyers only?

Nevermind, I found the answer.

Am I eligible for the HBTC?

You will qualify for the HBTC if:

you or your spouse or common-law partner acquired a qualifying home; and
you did not live in another home owned by you or your spouse or common-law partner in the year of acquisition or in any of the four preceding years.
If you are a person with a disability or are buying a house for a related person with a disability, you do not have to be a first-time home buyer. However, the home must be acquired to enable the person with the disability to live in a more accessible dwelling or in an environment better suited to the personal needs and care of that person.
