I dont want to be a doom-sayer here but a set of traffic lights at Thompson and Louis St Laurent would come in handy during this period of time.

People coming down JSP to LSL and normally turn down 4th line towards Britannia will now have to go all the way over to Thomspon, turn left and go down Thompson towards Britannia.

OH, I forgot there isnt a right hand turn lane to Britannia. So.... from September to December look for Thompson Road to be a mess in the morning and afternoon.

You can have your say on August 23rd.

The lights are fine. The problem is there isnt a right hand turn lane for southbound Thompson Road drivers to turn east on Britannia towards 25. Therefore they have to sit and wait as drivers turn left on Britannia, holding up traffic north to Thompson.

Its not going to be pretty.

Ive posted something on my website as well.

The agenda for the meeting isnt ready yet. They will be discussing this by law to have the road closed on the 23rd of August. They are announcing the fact theyd like it closed between Sept 2010 to Dec 2010.

Exactly. They need to make the official decision to close the road before they can do the work thats needed.

Ok. So this meeting is to decide whether or not to close 4th line for that specific date. It is not about what they are closing it for? :?

Thanks Mike for posting this thread.

For Ol skool and other posters

Fourth line is being closed for the construction of the water line to the new pumping station that is under construction south of the high school site to serve the Derry Green employment area and the future Boyne Survey.

For safety reasons it is too difficult to have traffic on the road while the crews are digging the deep trench due to the narrowness of the road and ditch area. I attending the public meeting held last winter that showed residents the construction of the water line from Trafalgar road along Britannia and north along 4th line to connect to the pumping station.

I have requested Regional staff to have James Snow Parkway open before the temporary closure of 4th line which they state can be done within the next 2 weeks as the parkway is ready for paving which should only take a few days to do similar to the final work on Derry road between Trafalgar and 8th line.

Will also be making an amendment to the by-law that any closure be after James Snow Parkway from Louis St. Laurent Blvd. to Britannia Road is open fully to traffic.

Thanks for the background Colin. I will definately be speaking at that meeting and supporting the idea of waiting until JSP is open before submitting commuters in the area to potentially dangerous situations for a very long period of time...4 months.

This is when most of us will be off our light summer schedules and kids back to school. Traffic will increase during this period of time and its simply the wrong time to do this kind of work without another major artery of road open to get the overflow.

Has the water line been put in along Trafalgar or will that still need to happen? I haven't seen construction, but maybe it was here already before I moved to town?

The first page had me thinking this was an absolutely assinine (purposely misspelled with two S'es) decision.

It makes complete sense that 4th line cannot be closed until JSP is open - JSP doesn't need to be fully completed, just open for business.

Thanks for clarifying, Colin!

Your welcome Mike and Fred D.

I walked the length of the new 1.5 km. portion of James Snow Parkway from Louis St. Laurent to Britannia tonight. About 3/4 of the road surface already has the base coat of of asphalt on it and I cannot reason any reason why this section cannot be open for the first of September.

Will be working with regional staff to ensure there is traffic flow around this construction project as well as the Trafalgar and Britannia road sections of the water main (see attached link)

Thanks Colin! That puts my mind at ease a bit cuz fourth line closure in itself would have been just chaos...
