Well well well... I wish you had been posting here sooner, Jan. I will look forward to the staff's answer to a small task like this one.

As it stands, you may - in the matter of one day - be able to help fix one small problem that the whole town has known existed from day one. Not a bad first day of posts for you. One small problem today, another tomorrow, and before you know it...

As for anonymity on the internet. It's somthing I believe in. I don't facebook, or twitter, or myspace, or anything like that. Infact I usually loathe myself for getting involved in most debates here on any given day. :)

People like you, the rest of the candidates, and other business people here have a vested interest in people knowing who they are. I however do not, and shall remain posting anonymously (under possibly the worst username here).

Hopefully as you post more here, you'll be able to read anonymous posts, and be able to weed through the crap vs the legit, constructive ideas.

Best of luck to you, and hope you stick around.

Here's your answer to the Main and Bronte intersection question and the answer to another poster's question regarding the sidewalk west of Main: The contract for this work has been awarded to Dufferin. They have some work to do at the new Fire Station on James Snow Parkway and then they will start on the work at the intersection and a temporary sidewalk on the south side of Main from Whitmer to Bronte.

FYI, I just got back from walking downtown from Heathwood and they started marking out the sidewalk! Now, let's see how fast this moves... won't be in time for RIBFEST this weekend!

Hi 727 Girl

Yes the contractors are working on the utility lines first and have marked out the sidewalk locations which were noted at the two public meetings held last year which many residents and I attended. (see attached tender information)

http://www.milton.ca/execserv/agendas20 ... %20JSP.pdf

The work should be completed in a few weeks with the full reconstruction to be done next year after all the property negotiations have been completed with the landowners in this section and CN railways for the walkway tunnel.

Out of curiosity, will the intersection of LSL and JSP have a set of lights or just a stop sign initially. With 4th closed and the amount of N/S traffic on JSP coming to and from Britiannia, it could be quite dangerous for cars making the N/S turn from LSL (ex Thompson and LSL).

I was wondering if anyone has heard when this closure is on track to start? I thought it was to have started by now. Thankfully not, since there are not yet traffic lights at JSP and Brittania. I think those will definitely be needed. Anyhow, just curious to know what the new timeline is?

Hi hvhomeowner

The traffic lights are scheduled to be installed the week of October 21st according to regional staff as they are doing several traffic light installations to be done this fall and the region joint tenders with local municipalities for these type of orders though a co-operative purchasing process as each intersection traffic lights costs between $ 120-150,000 depending on the size and configuration of the intersection.

So far the new traffic lights for the region are Savoline & Derry, Derry & Farmstead, Steeles & Wilson and James Snow Parkway and Britannia with more planned next year.

Please read my earlier posts regarding the co-ordination of the 4th Line closure and the James Snow Parkway opening.

Thank you Colin, for the update! You always have the latest information for us! If you were the regional councillor in my ward, I would certainly vote for you! You have done a great job for your constituents and for the rest of us!

Really? I'm surprised these intersections warrant lights. I spend most of my day driving around Milton, and I have never had a problem at either of these locations.

Admittedly, I typically try to avoid rush hour (although I'm not sure lights will make the commute better - I think the opposite may be true.)

It does not sound like there will be lights at this intersection - good luck making a turn west onto LSL when there is a heavy flow of traffic heading south to Britiannia.

Hi hvillager and other posters

The plan for Louis St. Laurent and Thompson road is to install traffic lights at the intersection when the bridge is complete later this fall and traffic lights are also installed at Louis St. Laurent and Highway #25 to handle the traffic in and out of the Coates and Beaty neighbourhoods.

The Town is also working on a number of road projects in the area including the extension of Louis St. Laurent to Bronte St. S. which should be open next summer at the same time as the new residents of the Willmott neighbourhood move in as well as the four lane reconstruction of Bronte St. S. from Derry road to Louis St. Laurent in 2011.

In 2012 the overpass over the CN rail line west of Bronte St. S. will be completed for Louis St. Laurent to connect between Bronte St. S. and Tremaine road to serve the Harrison neighbourhood and become the entrance to the Eduction Village which will be a major project for the next council.

See attached initiial application to be considered tonight at the Administration and Planning Committee from Mattamy homes for a new subdivision of 412 homes in various styles south of Schreyer Cr. off Savoline Blvd. and just north of Louis St. Laurent Blvd. west of the CN rail line.

Sorry hvillager you also mentioned Thompson and Louis St. Laurent. Will check with staff regarding Louis St. Laurent and James Snow Parkway regarding traffic lights. The intersection is pre-wired for them but will get a more definitive answer from the Town traffic manager on when the lights are projected to be installed.

Hi hvillager

Sorry for the delay. Regional staff got back to me and the plan is for stop signs only at Louis St. Laurent and James Snow Parkway to start.
Staff will do a traffic counts once both streets are open to check on the volumes to meet the traffic warrants for a full traffic light system.

The intersection is already wired for lights and would only need the poles, lights and controller to be installed in 2011. I have suggested to staff that they check regularily since once both sections are open to Britannia and Highway #25 there will be significant growth in traffic to bypass other streets.
