Hello All,

Well mark Monday Oct. 4th, 7-9 PM on your calander (sorry shadow council - I tried to avoid Mondays but it's a tough time slot). I have booked the Milton Sports Center Banquet Room for an all-candidates meeting for the HDSB school board trustees for ward 1,6,7,8.

I have confirmed with Nancy MacNeil, and have sent invitations to Brian Hawley and Alam Jafar. I'll keep you all posted as I get things firmed up with the candidates.

Kim

Note that I've also invited Donna Danielli, though she's been acclaimed in her ward. Thought people might appreciate her pariticipation and have an opportunity to ask her questions as well.

Sorry for the late start!
Kim

Also, I could probably use a few volunteers to help with set-up and clean-up. If you think you might be available to help, please PM me.
Thanks!
Kim

Way to go!
Hope it is standing room only.

By the way, there is no council or committee meeting on October 4.

Thank you so much for arranging this. I would love to be there and if I can do anything to help, please let me know.

There's a Twitter All-Candidates meeting on October 4th at 7 PM that Discover Milton is hosting for all-candidates (town council).

That Monday actually *doesn't* have council or committee meetings that's one reason it was picked for Twitter All-Candidates meeting.

Kim, I know your meeting is school trustees while DiscoverMilton's is council candidates so in theory they don't conflict but I wanted to be able to attend both (for the school one just from the audience and potentially asking questions).

Anyone have a laptop with an internet stick I can borrow? Maybe I could go to the school trustee all candidates meeting and sit far in the audience so I can take part in the council twitter all candidate meeting while still listening to the school trustee candidates talk.

Btw anyway you can also invite the catholic trustees as well ? Maybe have that occur right after, same location? Up to you.

I think hubby's laptop would do the trick. I'll check if he's got the internet stick. I'll let you know later today. Sorry for the conflict Rick! I referred to the Town website listing of all-candidates meetings and that one wasn't on there. Didn't know! It was the only evening available that week. I preferred the Sports Center location because of it's parking and proximity to the wards in question (even though there's the contsruction going on).

Can you make this post a sticky? I'll also invite the Catholic Trustees. Thanks for the suggestion.

As a parent of a child in our public education system and Miranda only a couple of years away, I will be at that meeting for sure.

Not trying to sound hokey but this is one position that doesnt get the attention it deserves. Donna can attest to how much work is involved being a school board trustee with almost little or no recognition. Tireless hours are spent at meetings, with board officials, with school officials and with parents.

I hope that we have a good turnout in attendance for this because with the changes we are all going through at the town, region, province and federal level we need to keep in mind of our school board trustees.

Thanks Kim for working hard at getting this set up.

Hi Kim,

Thank you very much for setting up the school trustee candidate meeting. I agree with Mike in that the school issue is huge for the new area, and the school trustee is a very important job, now and for the next 20 to 30 years in Milton. So thanks again for taking the initiative to pull the meeting together.

I really want to attend so I am going to try to do what Mike said he is planning, namely be at your meeting and yet answer twitter questions with a laptop. I guess I need a rocket stick for this(?). Anyways Kim thanks again, I will try to get there early to help you set-up.

Kindest Regards,
Tony Lambert

Im not the one wholl be using the laptop. If I need to answer Twitter questions, I can do so from my virtual campaign office...the Blackberry.

All Tweeting aside, I would rather take my time to pay attention to the discussion of issues and give the candidates for trustee their just due. I know that as a candidate, I would hope people who are there to listen arent doing something else.

Maybe we can contact the organizers of the Tweetup meeting to move ahead or back the time of questions.

Oh crap! I just PM'd you saying I could help, but then I noticed that Oct 4th is our first Parent Council meeting and elections for Tiger Jeet Singh PS

I reeeeally want to help with this, though because I think this position is a very important one. Maybe I can help set up before 7pm and then join you for the last 1/2 hr?

Don't knock yourself out B! I was worried the date might conflict with some school parent council dates knowing HVPS does theirs on Mondays. I've already had a number of offers to help set-up. I PMd you with some other things you could help with in the logistics leading up to it. Thanks!

I concurr with Mike. I understand the need for candidates to go to all-candidate meetings and it's unfortunate we have the conflict. Given that there are potentially 4 council candidates that might be attending my meeting I repsectfully ask you to make a choice between the twitter meeting or this meeting to avoid distraction and give the trustee candidates the full attention they deserve.

I'll offer the alternative of doing my best to document the questions and answers and post them here afterwards. Anyone have a video camera? We're still-camera folks. If you have questions you want asked and cannot attend, please PM me with them.
