Thank you for the affirmations that I'm not just being ridiculous. Here, I'll show you another ridiculous basement set up......
Image

Note the beam running along the length of the ceiling....understandable. But they kindly put the pipe (I think it's a drainage pipe?) NOT next to the beam.....therefore the duct work could not go next to the beam and is over.....so that's going to be fun to drop the ceiling, not just in one area, but across that whole section! What kind of set up is that?
And we are basement people and plan to finish it asap.

That is MESSED UP!

You could get them to put in 2 new jack posts spread wider apart and remove the one right in front of the window, but that give you a view but more posts to worry about. So odd!

As for the HVAC, that's a common problem, depending on which trades come in first. I had to reroute my entire HVAC in my last 2 basements. no choice! :(

Ok again, I'm not home to check mine but I do believe mine looks like yours. What I can tell you that in my basement it has high ceilings so you should not have a problem with this if your basement ceilings are as high as mine. I did not upgrade to high ceiling's I think they just come high with a look out basement

Thanks. our ceilings are relatively high for a basement, but really, the one duct that comes down does not leave a lot of clearance. Oh well. I'll suck it up. But c'mon, they've built enough houses to be able to figure out some basic design issues.
