I'm curious about all this locking in. I believe my gas bill went up in January and then down in April, but would have to check to make sure.

he (the guy at the door) claimed that the provincial government has been under charging us for years for hydro and in the near future (i think he said may) dalton mcguinty was going to lift the cap and start charging us full value for hydro. he said our rates could go up by as much as 20%. i'm a bit skeptical since i think i would have heard more of an uproar, and i do watch the news. i may have heard about something happening to hydro rates, but i'm not sure if it will have the effect this guy says.. wasn't the privization of hydro suppose to cause big hikes way back when?

btw, this was the first person coming to the door about locking in hydro rates. we've had many come to get us to lock in our gas rates- that may have been a good idea if we did it 5 yrs ago..

anyway, i just wanted to see if any of you smart people knew what this guy was talking about. i think we will just ride it out...

NINE POINT SIX!??! Holy crap!

Quote from April 19ths Toronto Star:

"On May 1, the regulated price will rise to 5.8 cents per kilowatt hour for the first 600 kWh's used per summer months, and 6.7 cents per kWh after that. Regulated bills vary across the province depending on what the local utility charges to deliver power."

"Ian Mondrow, spokesman for Direct Energy, the province's largest electricity retailer, said customers are signing up at 9.65 cents per kWh."

I recently downsized my house, put in a brand new high-eff gas furnace, replacing my electrical hot water heater, and updating all my computer equipment (which accounts for about 50% of my bill) to save on electricity.

I also want to investigate my options for solar.

I find that CityTV hypes things, uses scare tactics often, just to make a story.

It's true they do.. They are the TV equivalent of The Toronto Sun newspaper.

I went to college for ENG and by the end our first year you get really turned off by CityTV news because you learn to see through all the crap they do.
