This is just a friendly post to invite any of my neighbours in HV for a beer or drink at my place. You can be any race, sex, creed , income bracket, I don't care. Do I want to move to a place where I judge people? We all have to start somewhere, and all we want to be accepted in one way or another. We are all looking forward to, or moved into our new houses, an exciting time for anyone.

I thought this site was to help one another in OUR neighbourhood with questions and getting to know our neighbours. Its too bad its been lost by so few........ :(

HAVE A NICE DAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wink:

Nicely put Strikerdog!

I think our street is going to be awesome - we have such warm and inviting and friendly neighbours - and most of us are on friendly terms already and we haven't even met!

After they stop by your house for a beer they can stroll on over to our unit for dessert!

I can't wait to meet the many different people in HV when we move in in a few months!

:idea: Personally, when I post on here (and this is something I would recommend others consider...); I follow two rules:
1) Would I want what I write to be printed on the front page of a newspaper with my picture? Or would I be embarrassed;
2) Would I be willing to say this to a stranger's face or would I refrain because it's not appropriate.

Working in HR, I've taken a lot of cultural courses and deal with culture issues often. I think there are some natural fears that go on with changing neighbourhoods - there are "unknowns" about the other cultures, and there is a natural feeling of familiarness with those of like cultures - and so people tend to naturally gravitate to residential areas that make them feel comfortable and "familiar" - ie Brampton; Markham, Woodbridge.

But I think we should embrace the differences and try to understand where they are rooted from - ie maybe a family with 3 or 4 generations under one roof is a cultural norm because it is a custom to have the parents move in when you get married to help look after your kids and to take care of them after years of them looking after you. Or maybe some countries don't really have lawns and the whole lawn/landscaping experience is new and they just need to learn how to take care of it.

My heart does go out to new immigrants who are intelligent and gifted, but their only true barrier to getting equivalent jobs in my mind is communication skills and sometimes understanding the differences of corporate cultures from one country to another. I personally have a lot of respect for those who have the courage to come to a new country and try to master a new and complex language such as english. I certainly know I couldn't do it if I were in their shoes!

It would be nice if when we have a new neighbour of a different ethnicity that we reach out and try to get to know them - who knows - maybe it would come as a huge RELIEF to them as they may be feeling isolated and could use some neighbourly love and help!

I see a lot of what I would call "e-mawling" going on here and it's a shame. I much more enjoy the happy posts about people who are excited about the neighbourhood and the experiences they have had with moving in and getting settled.
