UFC just increased their fee over 300% for their fights. It used to be $600 and will be almost $2000 from now on. A good friend owns a bar in Brampton which regularly shows the UFC fights but at this price will be forced to show something else. Ridiculous increase..

^^ if using Bell, they can always order the fight using a personal (residential) receiver and then plug in the receiver to the Bell signal at the bar... probably illegal, but what the hell

I live a few hundred yards from BPs and it annoys me greatly that the advertise themselves as a sports bar but dont have the out of market sports package. Thats a requirement to label yourself as a sports bar (and they have a big @$$ sign saying Miltons Best sports Bar).

But I dont have much expectation of a place showing up. When you choose to live in the burbs you need too lessen expectations of having lots of dining and nightlife options.

^^ don't forget the grey market Directv subscription for tons of other sports when the Leafs/Raptors arent playing....especially HD Soccer!

Definitely the grey area of NFL, MLB, Soccer/FIFA, UFC, Boxing, X Games...you name it...it will be there and fully advertised with a calender to put it on your fridge...

Even if the Leafs are not on we will make sure the other games are on...

Wow, that would be awesome in Milton.

"probably"???

No bar would risk doing this.

They come after you for all your bars revenue for that night. + a huge fine.

But who would know? The owner/manager keeps his mouth shut, and no onw knows the difference.

back to the original questions.... I voted "not interested" before reading the post

If it was something like 'the real sports bar', then id totally be interested. if its anything less than that, forget it!

If someone would boot Portabellos out and turn it into a sports bar or pub I can promise we would be on a first name basis in no time....Im a regular waiting to happen in HV and shake my head every time I look at that place. What a waste of space and patio !!

+1 and I know other nieghbours who would support this as well... :D

We arent fans of this place either. We went a few times when it opened, but havent been back! I never see the patio used in the summer, and dont hear many good things about anymore. I am sure its only a matter of time before they have to close up... :?:

I'd hate to see any ward 6 business fail, but this place (Portabello's) is just sadly off the map. You almost never hear anyone talk about it, or mention it, or even know it exists for the most part.

The patio is great and spacious, but the place is so under used that it's a shame.

It used to get talked about all the time. We went as a family for a while, went with friends a few times, then moved West. Now it's off my radar. But since this post popped up, I've had a craving for "dessert pizza"

Agreed..lived in the Trudeau/Beaty area for almost 10 yrs now and went to Portabelos a few times in the beginning and we were so disappointed that we've never been back. Rather pay a taxi fare and go out on Main St....a change would be nice!

Back when it first opened, we used to enjoy their BBQ chicken pizza, it was a nice change from your typical pizza joint pizza.

But the place is darn near invisible. I almost forgot it even existed before talking about it today.

We used to like Portobello's a lot. We'd go once every couple of months. But the last 2 times we've gone have been very bad experiences.

The last straw was on Father's Day. My wife was out of town unfortunately, and I decided to take my kids for a late lunch. The roof at Ned's wasn’t open yet, so we decided to sit outside at Portobello's. There was only 1 other table seated on the patio, mind you it had about 10 or 12 folks. Long story short, my kids and I sat there for no less than 15 minutes while the waitress went in and out serving the other table, without coming to ours even once. Not even an offer to get the kids some juice and me a pint. We left and went to Ned's, where we should have stayed in the first place. I’m not likely to ever go back to Portobello's. Every time we drive by, my son still mentions that it wasn't very nice that the lady didn't come to our table to talk to us. What can I do but agree with him.

With the original intent of this thread in mind, I’d be up for a sports bar. Make sure the wings are very good, and the waitresses are hot. You’ll see me there. We are in the middle so east vs. west doesn’t matter to me. But if I was opening a sports bar in Milton, I sure wouldn’t put to too far from the Laurier campus.

I've been to Portabello's a few times now and have never had a bad experience. They've got a gorgonzola sauce pasta that my wife and I both love, and it's one of the few Italian places that I've been to that can make dishes to meet my spice level preference.

I hate to see it disappear since a few of the other restaurants I frequent in town have gone out of business recently, I'd hate to lose one more.
