Hi Laura,

The house closing went well last week. It's a total mess on the street and the heavy rains this past Saturday just made it worse! Hopefully we start to get some dryer, warmer temps soon! That'll help with our actual move later this month.

We went with TD Meloche Monnex for our home insurance (they also provide our car insurance). Total annual premium is about $800 (includes additional coverage for roof water damage and sewage damage).

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your house. I agree, you should speak to your lawyer about this. Interestingly enough, when I met with my lawyer he even said stuff like a missing counter-top, sink, toilet, etc. would be grounds for not closing on the house. So it's worth following up on. How can one use a kitchen without a counter-top?!?

Mattamy has definitely taken short-cuts with this sub-division. Even we found that the workmanship in our house wasn't really up to par....our 30-day list of fixer-uppers is definitely gonna be huge but what can you do!

We closed on May 12 and as of now we still have lots remaining in our house....eavestroughs, exterior paint, repairs to walls and trimwork inside, additional staining of our staircase, touch-ups to our kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, installation of all our bathroom accessories and a missing cable jack.

Hang in there and be persistent!

Nik

Hi Troy,

Dan is a good guy....I've dealt with him on several occasions, as well as our main contact, Andrew. They've both been very accomodative and understanding but you're right about the contractors themselves.

We're lot 60 (Hazelnut Elev B).

Yeah, our warranty rep at our PDI told us about Mattamy only doing 1 coat of urethane on the stairs. You'll have to let me know how your's turns out after you add a few more coats yourself.

Good luck with all your remaining items and see you on the street soon. Hopefully the weather is good tomorrow....it's move-in day for us!

Have a good weekend.

Nik

It sounds like a lot of us are having a lot of similar issues on this street with some of the workmanship. I'm just finishing up my PDI report and it's pages! In case your not aware, on tarions website you can now submit it electronically so you don't have to hand write it all.

I haven't seen anyone mention issues with the garage doors, we had to get them to come 2-3 times as it was too tight and we couldn't even open it. Dan came one day and even he couldn't lift it up.

Anyways best of luck to those moving in and capture everything on the PDI. We been here since the beginning of the month and it's nice not being the only people on the street anymore :)

Oh yeah, Canada Post has a temporary box setup for us, but I went to the post office last week and they advised they haven't hired anyone to deliver to that box yet. In case your wondering why you haven't gotten mail there....

With the summer heat upon us, I'm just wondering if anyone has purchased their A/C unit and has recommendations/pricing, or is interested in doing a group-buy sometime soon? Let me know.

Hope you're all enjoying your homes, despite the chaos on the street!

Hey Hazelnut, we bought ours from Craig at fourseasons comfort, you will see a lot of referrals about him on this board. I did have to book him well in advance as this is a busy season, price was great and the install went smoothly. They actually recommend a different spot to install then where I originally wanted it, but it made so much more sense.

I wasn't at home during the install, so Craig came by another day to go over any questions I have. They also end up taking your furnace warranty over, just ensure it's on the invoice.

I got the group rate price but didn't order it the sametime as everyone else. Let me know if you have any questions, and if you order through him your more than welcome to let him know you heard from us.

And the unit is really quiet, I can't even hear it at all. hope that helps

Hi all,

We got a quote from KC Blinds for both shutters and blinds. Pretty good pricing and good quality products. Just wondering if any of you on the street have gone with them and can share your experience....and if you wouldn't mind if my wife and I could come by to take a quick look?

Thanks so much!

Nik

Anyone have a contact that they have used? How much for the main floor of a 2800 sq ft house? Ideas?

Are you looking for a contact for shutters?

I had the Shutter Guys install wooden plantation shutters on all my windows and it was at a good price (in a Hazelnut C)

A Juneberry in Vista Phase 1 used the same company for the same shutters in their whole home and posted pictures and the cost on the Juneberry thread
