Do you have any Milton road bike experiences to share? Favorite bike, routes, events? Comments on Tour de France?

I have an Opus...good entry level bike....30K on a good day. I am not a racer by any means...watching Andy & Frank race 109K up the side of a mountain is mind boggling. I'm happy to make it up Appleby and hang on for dear life down the other side.

Favorite rides include Britannia, Bell School Line, Campbellville Rd., 5th to 17 Side Road...& Derry too...yes Derry...I can get some good speed on Derry...45k/hr. Derry to Mississauga & then south is a good route too.

I use a Garmin 201...good for tracking speed & time...

Milton backroads can really accommodate any level of rider...I made the mistake of taking Walkers Line - N. Of Derry - dead end & then a long climb back up the hill.

...I can't get enough of watching the Tour too...

Hi Marathonman

You might want to try Louis St. Laurent from Bronte to James Snow parkway. The road is not fully open to vehicles yet, but you can make it on a bike and there is a multi-use path on the north side when you want to get off the street.

My husband just bought a Scott CR 1 pro, he's obsessed! He's up to 55km rides now, but says he's running out of routes around the escarpment! And he can't ge enough of the tour either

I'm not sure that I can agree with that.

Between Thompson and JSP, on LSL, I often get "brushed back" by cars who are annoyed that I have the temerity to actually be on the road. With the construction at 4th and LSL, biking is extremely hazardous.

Also with the construction at the school and near 4th Line on LSL the intersection is very narrow. I use that route going to drop off my daughter to daycare and there are times it gets backed up and the Milton Transit bus cant make its turn.

The multi use path yes...the road, no.

Please do not ride your bikes on these roads during rush hours - morning or night.

Especially Britannia and Derry, it's dangerous and frustrating to the cars travelling on these roads trying to get home from work.

That's my favorite route...only I take Britannia across, instead of Derry, virtually zero traffic west of Hwy 25.

If you ride your bike on the sidewalk (grrrr) have a bell please, and use it..I'm getting tired jumping from fright or getting hit by bikes.

by the way, in old Milton and Dorset park ,please use the roads, there are hardly any traffic.

In all honesty, I don't really care if it is frustrating for drivers...I see tons of other racing cyclists out there and most drivers slow down and give us lots of room.

I'm not a "pack" rider, I stay as close as I can to the curb & use hand signals.

Good for you - so you're probably the one biker that isn't a complete douche.

I don't care if you want to go out at ANY other time of day or weekends, but why do bikes have to go out at 7:30-9 in the morning, or 4:30-6 in the afternoon on weekdays? Especially down roads like Britannia and Derry?

Can somebody tell the cyclist coming up from Oakville to use 4th line instead of 6th when going north. They can cut through the closed off section of 4th (park) close to the 407. The work around the bridge on Lower Base Line is soon to be complete however 4th and 5th line are still dead and have been for almost a year.

Please drive your car on Trafalgar or Hwy 25...6th is one of our favorite routes.

I don't understand why bikers pick the busiest routes during the worst times of day?
