I don't follow Mike on his website. I come to this forum to get my updates.

Just in a km of radius of around me, there is a high school that is going up, apparently there are plans for another elementary school on Derry, construction all along 4th line and now road closure at 4th line and Derry.

I quickly went on Mike's website and I saw Movember, Haunted House, Remembrance Day, Celebrating Stories, Council eyeing Velodrome etc.

All this if fine, BUT, for me, Ward 6 comes first. I want Mike to make Ward 6 the best Ward in Town .

Perhaps, start a Ward 6 thread and keep us up to date on all the improvements planned and implemented.

I voted for the guy and I have every right to be critical if I feel so. I am not known for "pussy footing" around here .

Umm, last time I checked, the HV Forums weren't the official Ward 6 bulletin board. We're lucky to have Mike and many other councillors engaged on here, but if you have a specific question about something, why not call Mike or send him an email via his site? Seems like the logical thing to me. Or, start a thread on a particular concern you have and more than likely Mike will answer there.

The job of councillor in Milton is actually a part-time gig and I think most do a great job of attempting to keep the community abreast of what's going on.

Also, this isn't the only site worth visiting with regard to Milton news and goings on. It might do you some good to bookmark a few of the other great sites out there (and/or subscribe to their RSS feeds) because the Villager -- a great resource -- doesn't capture absolutely everything.

We're kind of a boring ward in so far as development items go.

I don't buy that just because a lot of it is already developed doesn't have to make it boring. There could be a lot of little improvement/beautification projects that could possibly be undertaken such as improve the kid's play areas (equipment). Compare the one that is in my backyard to the ones in Ward 8.

Despite what seems like a lack of activity in our ward there are still lots of things on the go.

Ferguson Road and other surrounding roads are being worked on so sometimes there are delays due to construction but mainly the work gets done pretty quickly.

On Bennett Blvd by the Hawthorne Village School there were mobile radars installed to track the speed of vehicles in front of the school. They were taken down on the 28th of October and Ive asked staff to send me the results when they are complied.

Since taking office Ive received a few emails/calls from concerned residents on Bennett because of speeding through the school zone and tests like this can prove/disprove if there is a problem or not. Also using these results, we can look at possible traffic calming measures and if they would work or not.

We've recently had our McDuffe Park clean up last month as well, which went great. There were a number of people from our ward who braved a cold Sunday morning to pick up some trash to help keep McDuffe Park clean. Thanks to everyone who came out. That was the second cleanup we had in the park as this past spring on Milton Makeover day, freemantrailfaimily, fred d and others braved yet another chilly day to do some much needed cleanup.

If there is anyone else who would like to help out in some park cleanups in Ward 6, I'd be more than happy to help out, promote it and grab Anthony as well to clean up :)

We are still waiting to hear from other levels of government (education/province) about the new school at Derry / 4th line and a number of residents in that immediate area have been checking in with me to see what the progress is...and as of right now, its a holding pattern (as usual)

On 4th Line just north of Menefly Place there are some trees being removed / new ones being planted by the owner of the development which I can send updates on.

As for the new high school being built on 4th Line and LSL both of our trustees have said all is on schedule for opening in Sept 2012. I still have some concerns about that intersection (width, number of vehicles etc) that I have brought up to staff/will bring up to staff in the coming weeks to get updates on.

Along Marshall Cres there is a parking survey being sent around to home owners about allowing/disallowing parking on one side of the road that I will be going around to make sure they have completed it. The more input the town gets, the better the result will be.

Finally on Meighan there is a petition being circulated to see what kind of traffic calming measures can be used there to curtail aggressive/speeding drivers along that street.

Not bad for a sleepy little ward eh?

I'll take all of this info and post it in a ward 6 update thread probably in the Milton Town Hall section as well as on my website www.mikecluett.ca

Hey, stay outta ward 8! My local councillor got my mailbox moved and tree replaced even after Mattamy said they weren't going to.

But back to Mike, I think it's unfair to say "Mike must go out of his way to somehow tell me about stuff I cant even bother to send a little email to ask".

Question to councillors: - In Mississauga I got newsletter from my councillor twice a year via Canada Post. I haven't seen anything like that here. My sister in Oakville gets them too. What do you spend your newsletter budget on? I dont agree with Kiddan, but I do see the point. Here in Milton Champion is a hit-and-miss and I haven't gotten a single newsletter in mail. Why not? If councillors in Mississauga and Oakville are spending their budget in sending newsletters, what are you spending your budget on?

Mike can correct me if I'm wrong but Milton councillors don't have a budget for newsletters. It would come out of their pockets. The town sends out a quarterly newsletter with updates for the whole town.

Good question. The first thing we have to do is HAVE a budget. I say that with tounge firmly in cheek.

My first newsletter went out this past summer, not to every home unfortunatly which is why for my second one, Im going to have it professionally delivered.

The "budget" for that newsletter comes out of my pocket and not from the towns budget. Some councillors chose to have newsletters sent out and some of those municipalities have it included in their budget. Right now Milton doesnt have one for part time councillors and that wont be changing for the time being.

Some of the other councillors out here have already sent one as well and again, from their own pocket book. Thats why I also try to post as much as I can on my "virtual" newsletter which is my website and I try to post here as well. It saves paper and easier to deliver, but I know many people like something they can read themselves on paper which is why Im making sure my second newsletter will be sent out properly.

The Town of Milton sends out the "Talk of the Town" newsletter to everyone in town which is a good source of information too. Yes, local councillors have ZERO budget for things like this and some chose to send something and some dont. I promised during my campaigns for office that I'd do it, so its being done :)

I am in ward 8. With all the constructions etc. here, a generic town-wide flyer (really, it's a flyer) doesn't help me at all. I want to know about gas stations, stores getting constructed here. Public sessions in my area. And so on.

Same Ward here - Zeeshan has sent out at least 1 newsletter - we moved here in June and it came in the mail - it was a complete waste for our home - we had gotten all the updates online already, but I can see it being good for people who aren't online as much.

I thought this was a post about a gas line being hit by construction workers on 4th line? What's with all the "my councillor didn't post, didn't email, didn't whatever" posts?

As a Milton resident I'm far more concerned with the number of times construction workers have been hitting gas lines around here. I can recall 3 in the last year or so, one that resulted in a home being destroyed!

I'd like to know what is being done to make sure this doesn't happen again. Aren't there regulations that need to be followed before someone digs up a road? Did Union Gas just randomly bury gas lines all over town and we don't know where they are until someone digs one up? This issue is far bigger to me than my councillor not posting.

Gerry

Here's an update. Apparently an Oh Henry wrapper blew into Ward 6 earlier today. Ward 6 residents are claiming it was those dirty slobs from Ward 8 bringing down the property values in Wards 4,6 and 2. Ward 7 wants borders installed as well as travel visas to use them as any sort of throughway. And don't forget the user tax for using the roads in various Wards. Residents in the high BMW, Mercedes zones don't want some dirty Toyota or Honda driver grossing out the neighbourhood. This town is hilarious.

Great point Gerry! I jumped to Mike's defense because I didn't think it was justified. But you are quite right - this is serious. What's up? Is it lack of machine operator training, bad marking on Union Gas's part, not getting lines marked before digging? Something worth investigating further. Thanks for getting the discussion back on track.

This is very concerning. Mike, what are you going to do about this Oh Henry epidemic ravaging Ward 6? If you could send your response to me via carrier pigeon that would be great as I'm not bothering to check your site or any other for that matter for updates.

Thanks.

Hawthorner: Zeeshan sent out a ward 8 newsletter a couple of months ago, but the delivery system didn't work all that well. It will be improved upon for the next round.

Kim: You're right, it comes out of their pocket, which is why I urge small business owners in town to help sponsor this activity!

Our current council (I know Wards 6, 7, and 8 best) is doing a great job of keeping us informed using a combination of traditional and modern ways, but most importantly, if we're not spoon-fed every piece of information we want, they ALWAYS make themselves available to answer emails in a timely manner.

Mike,
What are your thoughts on getting the white picket fence (installed by Mattamy) to be repainted in Ward 6? The wood seems be detriorating especially the one at Ferguson and St. Laurent last time I checked...
