Cool. Apparently you'll be neighbours with a pilot!

Welcome.

Last week we had our first design oppointment. Our house Lot 48 is being fraimed. Our Kitchen is off white or creamish with Expresso Island.

What our concern is we did not find any tiles to go with this kitchen combination. We went Olympia tiles. What we liked is Proceline tile which has Marble finish.

We have Hand Scrape Hardwood with Baroque(Dark) Espress kind hard wood. We have very short time to make selection and looking for sugestion on tiles colors.

We also requested last week during our appointment that we are too late
for Arch in Family room entrance.

We also don't want Bulk head in our kitchen. They are not sure about this request as well.

I have the same colours.....off white cabinets and espresso island with hand scraped white oak baroque hardwood. The tile I chose is the Olympia Tile Roksand in Twilight (this was an upgrade porcelain tile).

The floors look amazing and go extremely well with the kitchen cabinets. You can see what it looks like on the Olympia Tiles website, however, it is a shade lighter than the sample shown

Thanks kitty for sharing info. I checked the Olympia site seems like they have only 12x12 tiles. Color looks great. My wife want larger tiles 17x17 or larger

Kitty are you on same site? Do you have 12x12 tiles. We 7 feet wide foyer and thinking to put design with darker tiles or Medalian in the foyer area.

dino1965,

the tiles are 12x12....I too wanted larger tiles and was somewhat disappointed by the 12X12 size, however, they do look really good with the kitchen colour choices and the hardwood so I took the tile over size

Hi everyone, has anyone noticed angled slices in some of the 2 by 4s in the interior wall? I was walking through our house today and found about 20 of these. They are sliced almost all of the way through and then have a scrap piece of 2 by 2 accross where the cut has been made. There is no wiring or plumbing around the wood so I have no idea why they would do this. Any ideas? I want to make sure this isn't normal before I start complaining.

They cut the 2 X 4's to straighten them. This is not unusual.

So is this to correct crowning in the lumber? Does it matter that some walls have 2 or 3 pieces of wood in a row cut? This seems like it would not be nearly as sturdy as wood that has not been cut.

Yes, this is to make sure the walls are straight by taking the crown out. The added piece of wood that was added will strengthen the cuts in the wood. Overall, once the drywall is up everything should be fine.

I know that you can use a handsaw, cut partway into the stud at about the midpoint of the bow, then pull the bow to straighten it. Shims are usually used to compensate for the void left by your cut. Finally, the stud is "sistered" with a two foot long brace of 2x4 along the side of the stud. This is unfortunately not what I am seeing.

Instead, there are several 2x4s slided all the way through (or almost) and only sistered with a 1x1 "stick". (I wish I could figure out how to post pictures!) I just think for the relatively small cost of lumber, why not just replace the 2x4s and use the warped ones for blocking, etc.?

Using a "stick" to support the cut 2 X 4 is a bit cheap. A 2 X 3 is the best option.

In reality though, people don't often wrestle, lean on, or push hard on interior walls - so it is unlikely that it will effect anything.

Sometimes the 2 X 4's can warp after they are put up.

Hi All,

I am new to this forum, will be moving to lot#82 in June 2012.

Received a letter yesterday from Planning Department regarding the proposed zoning by law amendment of the retail plaza south-east of the roundabout. Planning committee is meeting on Nov. 14 , 7 pm to review/approve amendment to allow gas station there and any one wishing to speak should register with the Town Clerk before 10 am on the date of the meeting.

Christian Lupis the Town Planner can be contacted at 905-8787252 x 2305 for more information. I have already sent him an email at christian.lupis@milton.ca with my concerns of having gas station there and hope we all should object to it.

Thanks
Manpreet

It appears that town staff are recommending approving the application to put in the gas station and car wash (although the propane facility has been removed from the application).
