I know for the sliders it would be easier to do yourself afterwards. We didn't look at prices for the shower enclosure when we bought.

Most of the trades can be done afterwards if you want, it is just if you want to have the hassle of construction, mess etc...

A big one that can be done after is the backspalsh, which is crazy overpriced through mattamy (when we were there base I think was 1500-1800).

Do the shower doors after and save over $1000. We did and it was easy to install. Search for showerhouse for pictures.

Agree on the frameless shower doors, they are simple and easy to have done afterwards and it's several hundred dollars cheaper. In addition to rrknight's source above there's also Koski Glass in town here and they do a great job.

I disagree on the closet sliders though, or perhaps it just depends on if you get lucky with the size of your closet. We changed out our upstairs hallway board sliders after closing and it was a huge hassle. The closet opening was 2" larger than what would fit standard sized doors, so we either had to special-order custom-sized doors at 1" each larger than the norm, or change the trim to be larger and therefore hold the standard doors in place afterwards. We chose the latter.

So we ordered the doors which come primed only, gave them two coats of paint (hassle), had the trim widened (hassle), and had someone hang the doors and have the hardware put on (hassle). We had a hard time finding a handyman who wanted to do it since it was a smallish job -- mind you that was at the end of 2009 when the Home Reno tax credit was still on so handymen were really busy then (big hassle!).

Also, be aware that you'll have the bottom piece that holds the sliders in place screwed down into your carpet, so if you aren't changing out your carpet to hardwood at the same time you'll be left with goofy looking holes in your carpeting once you change out the sliders. Not cool.

Bottom line -- if I were doing it again I'd have Mattamy do the double swing doors for sure.

+1, I would let mattamy do the closet upgrades. I did the same in my last house and got frameless mirrors after closing and OH MY GOD! It was the crappiest job I had to go through when mattamy's frame was not square. Had a hard time finding the right size and get it to work on the damn track. Never again.

I guess it's a different trade that does the shower door opening because ours was perfectly squared.

I agree re have Mattamy do the closet doors....I chose this upgrade with Mattamy and had all the sliders (board and mirror) changed out to the double swing doors and if I look at all the doors, they are all different size (not standard) as the openings are all different.

We did the closet doors ourselves. Yes you will save money BUT- it is a huge hassle for most people. My husband can do anything around the house literally and he put it off for a year. It wasn't a big deal when he finally did it but he didn't want to deal with it. I have never seen him do that before. No the doors will not fit exactly but Home Depot will help you order the correct size but then you have to redo the framing and drywall- it's not square either. If you and/or your hubby are really handy go for it. Otherwise don't touch that one. If you do buy them pre-hung on the frame already.

The glass or frameless glass we got quoted less after closing from Koski with installation and my hubby could do it himself- so definitely cheaper.

FYI- don't plan on paying someone to install the closet doors- we couldn't find anyone willing to do it for us for money (I was frustrated that they sat in our house for a year so I tried finding someone to do it)

We had a Quincy corner but we sold it in September, currently waiting for our next house to be built in Ancaster.
I guess the price wouldn't apply for a different house but it was approximately-- door $800 the entire shower $1400.
They will come over, measure and get you a quote very quickly.
