According to mecel... it could be rogers, bell, cogeco, comwave or primus only.

If GSM then unit @ $199 and pay extra $10 month for the air time minutes.

Is the new Rogers home monitoring system available in Milton?

We saw a display for the Rogers monitoring service at the fall home show... It was really pricey!

is rogers anything available in milton? internet? tv? i have my cell with rogers and would like to keep my bundle - quite happy with all of it, but i don't think they are in milton which is a big shame.... :(

+1
I agree its a big shame!!
I too have great package in internet and tv cable. Rogers do not service milton, I called their customer service and they informed they will service in near future - no definite date.

Just do not see any good package with bell or cogeco.

Same with security - not sure which company to opt for.

Agreed - Cogeco is the ILEC, so for Rogers to be able to get into the area, they'd have to rent the lines from Cogeco... Not going to happen.

What is included in Mattamy rough in package? All wiring to door / windows for contact sensor, motion sensor, glass break sensor etc....

Was able to find a decent DSC Hybrid (wired/ Wireless) system for less than $300 that I can install myself.

Ims & Wish

I'm fairly certain you can call your DC consultant and have them add it on.

I agreed to the Mattamy security package with the LCD display and camera at the door... Free installation, 3yr term at $27/mo + taxes (approx)

I have to say at first it sounded neat.. but I don't use the video monitor as often as I thought. The convenience of having it all done before closing was a selling point and not having to front any money for this was also a consideration.

For any other system that is comparable as a wireless unit, you will pay about $400-$500, then have to install it, then even signing up for a monitor service at $10/mo, you will still pay $800-900 in 3 years anyways. So the cost difference when you look at it that way is minimal as with the Mattamy deal you own the system after the three year term and then you can change your provider.

IMO - if you are planning to resell your home within that contract period, you may be better off on a month-to-month agreement. Depending on the home and the buyer, some people get turned off by having to take over contracts... (especially if you already have one for the hot water tank.)

Is the security package w/ LCD discplay & Camera standard for security systems with mattamy?? Or is it an upgrade? my design book doesnt mention an LCD or Camera @ front door. It does mention a DSC 1550(something like that) key pad, so im just wondering. Maybe its only offered with certain home sizes???

It's the standard system, offered with all homes (I have it in my new townhouse). It didn't specify in my design book either, but it's on display at the design centre for you to see.

There's an option to control your security system with your cell phone, for an extra $10 per month or something like that. I'm not sure if you also have to have a land line for this, too.

I have my home phone through Cogeco, and a basic line is all you need for the security system. I think their basic phone line is about 15 bucks per month.

edit: Just looked earlier in this topic, and found this: "According to mecel... it could be rogers, bell, cogeco, comwave or primus only. If GSM then unit @ $199 and pay extra $10 month for the air time minutes."

lol.. no worries. Technically it means "Global System for Mobile communications". But really what I think it means is: if you want to use your cell phone instead of a land line for your security system, then you need to have a special unit installed (for $199 extra), and then it's $10 per month extra for the mobile monitoring. :)

Hi guys,

We just bought a Mattamy house and we are having our DC appt this week. From what a lot of you brought up, we would definitely not go with the Home security package from Mattamy. What we were thinking is to buy those DIY kits from Costco (8 wireless cameras + DVR) and try to hook them up ourselves.

Questions:
- Do we need Mattamy to add electrical outlets around the side of the house where we plan to put our cameras? Of course, there will be concerns from the weather elements. Any thoughts?
- How secure are the wireless cameras ? It would be a headache to have them wired but if need be, we will go with that.
- Has anyone done this after closing? How did you connect the electricals for the cameras?
- If we need upgrades from the builder, what would it be?

Thanks in advance !

Hi Spiker,

We are also thinking same as you. How did your appointment go? Did you add any outlets (rough in) for security system? We have appointment next month and making our wish list.

Thanks,
RB

Thanks for the info...VERY helpful! I will be calling my DC and asking to have this added to my upgrades.

Question - do you have to have a land line in order for it to be monitored, or is a cell phone sufficient? Do you think my DC would actually have an accurate answer or do I need to contact the security people and discuss that with them?

THANKS!!!

i just booked with alarm force and they have a package for 30 bucks a month where you can use cell phone rather than lanline. plus it is a 100 dollar install on a 3 yr contract. its an upgrade on their basic package or 25/month and free install.

Hi all, did anyone encounter any additional charges when it came to signing the security system contract? If so do share.

Thanks.
