Hopefully the town does not increase taxes!

The money is better spent on a Velodome! :)

How about build a hospital/velodrome combo building? Kill 2 birds with one stone!

Also, anyone who is surprised or shocked that the gov't isn't following through on their promise is hopelessly naive. And it's not a liberal or conservative thing, both can be counted on to renege on their election promises.

I'm not surprised. I was back and forth with a couple people on twitter all day yesterday about my prediction that this could happen... believe me when I say I wish I was wrong on this one. I would've been the happiest person to ever eat crow.

It could still happen. The two articles- I heard of one in the Post, the other in the Globe &Mail probably use quotes from very similar sources. Don't count out the fact the "sources" could be wrong.

Based on nothing but instinct; this isn't over yet.

Are they allowed to do that? Say its going to get done, then yank it away from a community?

McFly did a similar thing in a riding during the election Richard...he saw he was going to lose a seat due to the building of a power plant so he haulted it during the election, even after ground had already been broken, and now will have to pay many millions I'm sure by cancelling it. But hey, he won the riding!!

Truer words can never be spoken. The problem is that he is in a minority position so who says that some of these decisions cannot be reversed. The problem is that the cupboard is bare and probably worse than the Libs say it is, so whoever replaces them will not have any cash to work with and the CUPE and the like will still want their pound of flesh , as they are entitled to it. It's in the contract. Open up your wallets Ontario.

So at what time is it worth its weight in gold when projects are commited to and how did we all jump the gun on this if it wasnt 100%? There must be some point from now on that we can say "ok, now its going to happen."

This is worse than when my parents would say we're going to Canada's Wonderland this summer and it came and went without us going. The next time they tried that, I demanded to see the season's passes before I fell for it again. Is there some sort of seasons passes we can get if the goverment promises the hospital expansion to us again?

Are you new?

It's to government. They could sign 10,000 contracts and spend a billion dollars to do it, and you still can't trust it will get done. The only point where you'll be able to say "ok, now its going to happen." is the day you see that crooked piece of sh*t cutting the ribbon on the front door so he can take all the credit for a job well done.

It's just one more shining example of why people need to start demanding that government get OUT of the business of delivering services. They suck at it. Just let business build and operate the hospitals, and have the government pay for it if you want. At least that way things will get done.

For everyone's information, I am posting Councillor Lunau's Notice of Motion which she will be presenting to Milton Council this Monday March 26th at 7 pm regarding the concerns that the Globe and Mail newspaper published in its Wednesday March 21st edition speculating that the expansion of Milton District Hospital would be delayed. Councillor Lunau is the Town representative on the Halton Healthcare board is circulating this concern for residents input on the issue.

Conversations with Ministry of Health indicate that this newspaper article is SPECULATIVE and that officially the Minister's approval stand and the process witll continue at its accelerated rate. However, no one can speak to the provincial budget which will be announced next week.

If you are concerned, you are encourgaed to put your concerns in writing or email to ccu.moh@ontario.ca. This is the corporate communications unit that is responsible for the formal vetting and counting of such emails. To be most effective, including a question or state an expectation of a response from the Minister.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the Notice of Motion that will be considered by Council on Monday evening.

Item: Milton District Hospital
Requested by Councillor Lunau

Whereas the Town of Milton has nearly tripled in since since 2000 and continues to attract new residents as Canada's fastest growing municipality;

And Whereas the current Milton District Hospital is grossly undersized to meet resident's community hospital needs and the current facility is very outdated and nearing the end of its useful life;

And Whereas the redevelopment plans include critical capacity increases and improvements in emergency, diagnostics, surgery, obstetrics and medical services to meet the growing needs of Milton residents;

And Whereas Halton Healthcare services has worked with the Mississauga-Halton Local Health Integration Network (MHLHIN) on the scope of the Milton District Hospital expansionand has the support of the MHLHIN;

And Whereas the Town of Milton has committed to help with the Local Share contribution and has established a Hospital Reserve funded by a Hospital Tax Levy, as well as a $ 500,000 contribution from the 2011 budget surplus;

And Whereas any delay in the Milton District Hospital expansion beyond the projected completion date of 2017 would have a critical impact on access to care for Milton residents;

Therefore be it resolved that the Town of Milton Council asks the Honourable Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long Term Care to reconfirm the Province's committment to Milton residents stating that the expansion of the Milton District Hospital remains a key priority and will proceed with utmost urgency.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will be commenting more on this motion at the council meeting and invite residents to email the above address and local MPP's to express their concerns on the importance of the hospital expansion.

Colin Best
Local & regional councillor
Wards 2,3,4,5 North of Derry road.
