Off thread topic but related to this particular post, and its funny because today I had to get out mine and my g/f passports, and I remember she had a huge hassle obtaining a Canadian passport because she had a Quebec birth certificate (born in Montreal).
She got grief because her birth certificate wasn't an Ontario one (no joke)!

Those horrible people you call out are/were Canadians, sadly. Are you saying each country doesn't have their share? No one is saying Canadians are better than anyone else but you can't just become a Nationality overnight. Just like if I go live in Turkey and become a citizen, does that automatically make me Turkish? Will I just forget who I am? There is nothing wrong with being who you are but you can't be someone else just because a paper says so. You have to live it.

Gretzky bolted the country to become American. But don't let facts get in the way of your racism.

Lots of people born in Canada can not speak a word of english (ever walk down Spadina?)

Its true; the old Quebec birth certificates are not "secure" and in some cases are even issued by churches after the fact (not at time of birth).
I have one also and it was a major pain to get a passport as my old passport had expired.

Even on passport Canada website it clearly says Quebec Birth Certificate is not allowed unless issued after 1994
http://www.ppt.gc.ca/cdn/section4.aspx?lang=eng
(so if you have boatloads of people with no issues how old are you, 18? Or are you just trying to troll the other poster with things you don't know?)

You expect me to believe this? They're born and never leave their house almost right in the centre of the city? Unless you can prove this shut the hell up. Nonsense.

I'm not racist, I like everyone being here its not understanding that sucks. Wayne stayed in Cali cuz his kids were born there and their life was there now. He had roots there.

Your initial statement insinuated that Quebecers are not considered as "Canadian" as Ontarians - it alluded the fact that birth certificates from pre-1994 aren't as secure. FYI, I know 20+ people with BC's from pre-1994 that all have QC birth certificates.

Possibly, but they wouldn't be stupid enough to think someone outside of those parts would understand.

Excuse me? What initial statement? I posted twice in this thread, once to you and once to Nieuwendyk
Your post I replied to you said it was BS that someone born in the province of Quebec could not use a birth certificate as acceptable proof of Canadian citizenship
I called you on it & even linked to passport Canada's official page.

Your initial post speaks for itself; you claim that a person with a PQ birth cert can use it to easily get a passport which is not true. You need to first prove your citizenship with an alternate document (which most people do not have).

Obviously people who are born in Canada can live here without speaking a word of english (& in some cases not a word of french either)
I used Spadina as an example thinking you might put 2 + 2 together & realize not every Canadian Asian person speaks your language
And since I live in Milton I could use my parents as an example for someone who never leaves Chinatown

How do you figure that? Let's recap:
1. Guy 1 says his g/f got hassled for having a Quebec birth cert.
2. Sandeep calls BS because it never happened to him
3. Waterdragon explains why this situation might occur using logic and reason regarding Quebecs previous birth certificate issuing policies.
4. Sandeep freaks out that Waterdragon is insinuating Quebecers aren't Canadian.
5. If anyone insinuated that, it was me by posting a ridiculous photo. (which was not srs btw)

I disagree with your comment. I'm a proud Canadian and if you think we have no culture here perhaps you've spent too much time abroad to enjoy all the wonders Canada has to offer.

Canada is a new country that doesn't have a millennia + of culture.

It may not have been called Canada but the country didn't just fall out of the sky close to two centuries ago. The natives were here well before the white man ever stumbled onto the content. Allegedly Vikings also visited the east coast well before Columbus set sail.

Quote:
We are a boring vast country with no identity.

Boring? Clearly you missed the excitment of the Vancouver Olympics or a Game 7 of a Stanley Cup Final. I know what you're going to say, US based teams have won the cup for the last 19 years. If you were to say that I would remind you that hockey is Canadian and the Cup was donated and named after an English Lord, as close as Canada came to having its own policitical body in place at the time.

Boring? Clearly you've never been to see the mountians in Banff, majestic and definately not boring. Have you ever walked down Rue St. Catherines Street in Montreal on a Saturday afternoon in the summer? With all the hub bub going on it is far from boring.

No identity? You said you were a traveller. Have you ever sewn a Canadian flag patch to your backpack. If you have I'll bet you were recognized as Canadian around the globe by people from all walks of life.

No identity? Although it has changed in over the past decade how is it we are recognized all throughout the world as a peacekeeping nation?

Quote:
Telling people to adapt to a embrace a weak/non-existent culture is impossible and setting people up for immediate failure.

Isn't that a huge part of the problem, we don't tell people to adapt. We accomodate instead of insist that our way of life adopted by all new comers, at least in Ontario. Perhaps we should be more like our freres et soeurs in Quebec and make our culture a priority by insisting it be preserved.

Quote:
I'm as white and 'Canadian' as they come, but I'm also educated and travelled. I'm here because my family has been here for generations but I'm stuck in Milton and can't wait to get out of here. There are just too many people who really should be put back on a boat and sent back home, over the pond to the great cesspool homeland England

Why are you stuck here? You're an adult aren't you? If you don't like it here move. Or perhaps you're just some 16 year old kid whos idea of travel is the time your parents took you to Disney World.
