Does anyone recall the details on our hot water heaters? They are meant to rentals but I don't ever recall the pricing or giving my details for payments.

You still need to call and register etc. I think it's Union gas

We just had our PDI today, impressed by the quality so far.

We got all our appliances trhough Tasco, anybody use their installation services? Any recommendation of good installation provder?

No, we used Goemans, and they installed my washer, dryer, and fridge. I used Villager recommendations for the gas stove and dishwasher (and garage openers). I would do a search on this blog for installer recommendations...these Miltonians are pretty open and honest.

Councillors, we need traffic calming solutions north of Pringle asap. I'm not liking the speeding between Pringle north to main, and vice versa.
Any chance we can get all way stop signs at Savoline and Kincardine in the very near future?
While I think Savoline Blvd north of Derry needs more than one stop sign, I'm really only concerned about us north of Pringle at the moment.

BUMP

100% agreed, this is a real sticking point for me too. cars are flying by way too fast! I agree with JDub Kincardine adn Savoline is an ideal spot for a stop sign - Collin, Zeeshan any comments?

Quick question to those of you who installed A/C with the builder:

I called Dearie Contracting to determine what A/C size we should install. They recommended 2.5ton for McCutcheon, based on # of windows and room size (not total sqft.). Can anyone confirm that this is what was installed for them. Just want to double check before I sign on the dotted line...tks

Never heard that before. From about 4-5 different sources (and not just from those vying for my business), I was told it was by sqft.

Nor I, Ruben...definitely a 'new' answer for us, too

We had Craig from Four Seasons Comfort and cooling install our AC and he recommended a 3 ton based on the square footage of our McCutcheon. I think it is always better to have too large of an AC unit then one that is too small.

Most manufacturers recommend slightly under sizing an AC system.

While the general rule is one ton of AC size per 1000 square feet of home, a home needs to be assessed - square footage - sun exposure - size and number of windows etc.

But in general, you are better off with a slightly smaller AC than a larger AC.

There are two reasons for this.

One job of the AC is to remove heat from the home, the other is to remove humidity from the air in the home.

1 - A slightly undersized AC will run longer with fewer stops and starts increasing the life of the compressor.

2 - and more important, is that an oversized AC can create an less comfortable interior climate. Because they are large, they cool the home quickly but they do not run long enough to remove humidity from the home. The sort cycling can cause premature compressor failure and you can end up with a cool but humid home that is not comfortable.

Say you have a smaller 1500 square foot home with a mature tree or two in the yard on the south or west side of the home. In this case a 1.5 ton AC would be a better choice than the larger 2 ton. It may run a bit longer to keep the home cool but the longer run time will enable the system to remove more humidity making the home more comfortable.

If you Google "oversized air conditioner" you will see a number of articles on that subject.

Thank you! But I have to admit that I'm stumped. I also dont think the contractors are out to con us. They installed the entire HVAC system in the house so they must know what they're talking about. Hubby called them, they asked for lot# and builder and had everything already calculated. Tough to ignore their response  .Greatly appreciate the feedback neighbours!

I'm sure you are fine and that your AC is perfectly suited for the home. :)
