I prefer no sidewalk ... I've noticed a lot of new homes in Milton appear to be too close to the sidewalk ... I feel like there's not much separating the front of the house from the sidewalk no matter how big or small the house is.

Sidewalks are great for chalk, keeps the kids off the driveway.
Say hi to someone walking their dog, met most of our neighbors that way.
Less grass to care for, more snow to care for.
Sidewalk is great unless you have too many people living in your house I suppose.

O/T...
The other day I was doing the same thing on my front porch and I thought... could one of the over protective moms phone cops and complain that there is a dude drinking beer outside? Or because I am on my property I am allowed to do such evil deeds?

It is not sidewalks problem. It is decline of living standards, IMO. Large lots will accommodate sidewalks and long driveways.
But here is no large lots anymore...

Sidewalks should be at the end of the driveway not split it and have a useless boulevard. I have seen it a lot, Burlington for example.
And yes, Mattamy pretty much sits the homes RIGHT on the sidewalk, it's ridiculous

Boulevards are for snow storage in the winter when the snow plows clear the street.

The question asked by many on our street was and still is - why does the boulevard need to be a full 2 meters wide on our quiet crescent.

We were told that this was an absolute requirement yet similar recent construction projects in town have a smaller boulevard.

Despite this, two of us were also told that the wide boulevard provides "psychological confidence" to pedestrians walking on the sidewalk because they "feel" safer.

Keeping drunks safe - makes sense. I'm about 6'2", if I face-plant toward the boulevard after a bender, I would safely land in a bed of dandelions, as opposed to the curb or street.

I will get back right to you after the next snow fall on how Burlington does this, and this is not a small road (it's like Yates). I am pretty sure what they do is dump the snow on the side without a sidewalk. I think it's just an excuse not to think outside the box.

Lol @ munchito, anyone that needs 6 feet of grass to be psychologically confident to walk down a road needs some help

For this road I am talking about, they have a bicycle lane that keeps the cars further away from the curb. For smaller side streets, cars should not be driving fast enough to scare pedestrians.

The moral of that story is to try to walk in the center of the sidewalk. Then when one falls over you will miss the road and the home owners porch.
