June 27 was the big media day (thread started 26) but anyone who is in any way interested in tech had been discussing this (& rumours) long before official announcement

The OP requested a portable and versatile tablet, hence my recommendation to them for the Nexus 7 (which is also available in a 16GB version). I didn't claim it was the best, nor did I know you were looking for one as well. Just adding my 2 cents to the OP.
