About 6 months ago we went to sleep factory and bought a new queen size. Thinking the initial discomfort was just "adjustment" time we didn't do anything about it or complain. Well, both my husband and I have never had such back pain. Sometimes I wake up during the night with a sore back. So, is the mattress too firm or not firm enough? The store won't take the mattress back at this point and we cannot live like this. How can you try out a mattress out in a store for 15 minutes and know if it is right? Any suggestions??

Well I'm not sure how exactly you could try out a mattress, maybe if you went into the store at like 9am on a Tuesday when it's not too busy they would let you take a nap for a few hours on a couple of the different models. Personally I don't believe in mattresses, I have a friend who is a Dr. and he says that mattresses are terrible for your back, especially the new foam ones that are supposed to adjust to your spine. He recommended sleeping on something hard and I agree 100%. I have a King size bed and I replaced my matress with a large sheet of plywood that is covered by some very thin foam pads, almost like carpet under padding. It is very rigid and great for my back. Only downside is my wife absolutely hates it, but we sleep in separate rooms most of the time so it does not matter too much.

When I bought my matress at sleep country I laid on it for a long while in fact everytime I tried to get up the lady encouraged me to lay longer to make sure the bed was right for me. I am going to guess your mattress is not firm enough if you are awakening in such pain

At Sears you have a Sleep Guarantee...

Sears “Sleep Guarantee” ensures that you have enough time to determine the comfort and support of your new sleep set. If you bought your new mattress and mattress pad at Sears, and if after 30 nights and within 90 nights of your delivery, you feel that your bed is not as comfortable as you expected, let us know and we will be happy to arrange ONE selection exchange for you.
Subsequent exchanges will not be permitted
Crib and floor model mattresses cannot be returned

so buying at Sears you have up to 3 months to determine if a mattress is right for you!

Hi gdm894,

Does this guarantee include the Temperpedic (spelling?) mattresses, I have been considering one of these but I am hesitant because of the higher cost for this brand and then I wonder about whether or not it would be a good fit for me and my back. I hear that they are fantastic however. Thanks for your help. Also any chance that they might be going on sale at Sears anytime soon.

Hi,

Yes, a Tempur-Pedic mattress would be covered by the guarantee. I will check into upcoming sales and let you know.

Gerry

I have to say that the mattress we bought (Simmons Beautyrest) is absolutely wonderful...like sleeping on a cloud.

I'm surprised that the store won't help you out...perhaps you can contact the Better Business Bureau?

We have a Simmons Beautyrest with pillow top and have zero back problems related to our mattress. I'd recommend trying out that model.

For what? The OP waited six feaking months to make a decision. No company on the planet will let you exchange that late in the game.

We bought a few mattresses from them and were very satisfied. I am sorry that you weren't but I am sure the salesperson gave you the same quarantee as us and in writing and probably told you in person what it was.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sleep Guarantee
WARRANTY
At The Sleep Factory, we pride ourselves on manufacturing quality products. That is why all the mattresses we make are covered under our manufacturer warranty. This warranty is valid towards defects in the product under normal usage. It does not include the gradual loss of comfort, support or replacement of external casing. It is natural for mattresses to develop body impressions over time. These impressions of 1” to 1.5” on either side are normal and are not considered defective, therefore are not covered under our manufacturer warranty.

To help maintain the full term of your warranty, we highly recommend the use of a good quality mattress protector. Mattresses will not be serviced or repaired if they are found to be soiled, in unsanitary condition or have received obvious abuse, as deemed upon inspection.

Your mattress must be paired with matching foundation and you must provide proof of purchase with your original receipt so that we can adhere to our full warranty.

The warranty on each mattress is different, so it is very important that you read your mattress label carefully for a full understanding of what your warranty covers.

Product that has been opened, set up or used may not be returned for exchange/refund/credit unless deemed to be of manufacturer’s defect upon inspection by an authorized agent on behalf of The Sleep Factory.

SLEEP GUARANTEE
If you are not satisfied with your mattress purchase after sleeping on it at home our sleep guarantee gives you 60 days from delivery to exchange your mattress for one that’s just right for you – hassle free. If you decide to exchange a custom size or custom made mattress, a 30% restocking fee will be charged.

For additional information, please contact your local Sleep Factory representative.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My guess is after 60 days you should have known if the mattress was good or not.

I agree. We should have been more "on top of it". The dead giveaway was when we had to sleep in the back of our van on the floor and we woke up saying "Omg, my back isn't sore" I know right? Where is the "L" on our forehead.

Figure out if it's a firm mattress or a soft mattress. Once you figure that out, sell it on Kijiji to someone looking for whatever type it is, and then buy the opposite. Cut your loses and rack it up to a lesson learned.

Most places sell a mattress cover, if you purchase their mattress cover they can then give you a 90 day guarantee. Does sleep country not have this policy?
