If you read this message board enough you'll know that I HATE red lights and how often they occur in Milton. In fact, I'm not alone as this is a heated discussion that often appears on our fine forum.

But just how bad is it?

Are we just a bunch of whiny brats spewing a bunch of rhetoric day after day, or do we possibly have a point? We're told of fancy fiber optics that exist that connect all the lights in town, but do they actually do anything to makes things better?

I recently bought myself a GoPro camera and for fun decided to put it on my car's dashboard to see what I could turn up when out for a drive. The results were exactly what I expected.

I had to go to Walmart this morning so I turned north on to Thompson from Clark and away I went. I adhered all posted speed limits and driving laws in the making of this and did this in one take.

Here is the time condensed footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a34qZ3d46Ls

***

In case you don't want to watch the video, because you are already sick of red lights, I'll tell you that on my very typical drive to Walmart I encountered 14 intersections with traffic lights and I stopped at 11 of them. Yes ELEVEN. A 79% stop rate.

Thompson is a main artery in town. Surely there is a way we can improve this to give the majority just a little bit of the right of way, or is this the way the town secretly wants it????? 4-way stops for safety?

Before we play the municipal vs regional road game, I'm sure I can film any street in town and find similar numbers that run up around 80%. Derry Rd anyone?

***

If you would like to see your business name appear in the video, for free, just let me know. This will get loooooads of views!!

hey you filmed me driving alongside you!

I was going to say that your gas pit stop screwed up the light cycles that would have later awarded you 72 virg...consecutive green lights, but then realized that no one gets through Main going north on Thompson without stopping first

Funny?? Why do I have to be so damn funny all the time!

I was striving for this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... FHv7Y#t=7s

I'll try harder next time.

I live in HVE and it's about 5 minutes faster to go to the Walmart in Burlington than it is to stop at all 16 stoplights on the way to the the Milton one.

You are right that Esquessing is the worst light in all of Milton! That fricking light is ALWAYS red and there's never anyone on it. WTH?

Hello Martin. Why did you not just take JSP from Clarke? Less lights.

Yet another example why we need more roundabouts!!!! So easy to use, more traffic flow and better for the environment!

I was martin-inspired on Sunday as I needed to take the kids down to the wife's baseball game at Drumquin -- took Scott to Derry and then east all the way to 5th line. I think I hit 8 of 10 red lights (and 2 of the 8 turned green just as I came to a complete stop). Jesus there are traffic lights everywhere and boy are they badly synchronized.

Having lived in Milton for 3-4 years now, I have never gotten all green on Thompson between Derry and Steeles. Not a single time.
