Haven't you left already?

I have no interest in moving to Oakville - my family and I like Milton.

My brother in law was looking into it. He went by the office today. Apparently had a bad experience with a sales person there. Don't know all the details, but he's not the kind of guy to be pressured into buying a home because of a number. If there are lots left to his liking after it's all said and done, he'll deal with it then.

I'm sure that's what the original Miltonians think in regards to the existing Mattamy Communities.

I was at the Sales Centre last night just to check it out. The VP of Marketing or Sales was there and she stated that they had sold out on the weekend. About 130+ units (mix of town and detached). They had released additional 45' and 50' lots Saturday afternoon but the prices increased by 30k!

I just don't get it - Why Mattamy has that attraction. We looked through the plans, and while they weren't bad, nothing struck me as "incredible". I could even understand back in the day when they had top rated customer service and everyone loved them.

Anyone know of any other developments opening in Oakville?

I really don't understand this craze...

All these people are either loaded with cash or they will be heavily debt loaded for the rest of their lives. And if it's the latter, I don't see how bank are giving mortgage approvals on houses over $700K? without a significant downpayment.

The deposits are a joke... Who has up to $80K just lying around? Or who wants to tie up that money for upto 2 years (First phase = most likely multiple delays) Are people taking out Line of Credits for this too? = More debt!!

The floorplans and elevations arent that nice, The siteplan is crap, Lots aren't backing onto any greenspace or anything...

What's the draw? just cuz it's "Oakville"? oh pleeease

Read this forum owned by Greg (phand)

http://www.buildinghomes.ca/community/forums/showthread.php?s=fc0502b0af780f90d1d7a09ed762eb3a&t=18128&page=5

The prices are unbelievable though, I know what new homes with bigger and deeper lots backing on wooded lots were going for south of Dundas just 2-3 years ago cheaper than this release by a couple 100 grand. Oakville is very very strict on lot releases, once this small section of area north of Dundas by Neyagawa is built up, the next and final area is between Trafalgar and 8th north of Dundas and that is still 2-3 years out.

Then no more planned release north of Dundas as that area has been zoned natural heritage system area and employment area only (the hospital, businesses and lots and lots of green space will be the only thing north of Dundas west of 3rd).

So, people are buying homes somewhere around Dundas, where it is called Oakville, but it really isn't compare to Bronte, for example. They have 50-80K in cash to be buried for two years, they are ready to commute more to Go Stations and have lees green spaces and walking, cycling paths and pay more for their house on top of it. Plus much more in taxes on top of it.
Well, it is country where people are free to spend money. I hope most of those in so-called North Oakville are from private enterprise and not public workers and doctors. It is nice to have reach people, at least nearby, if not in Milton, who could pay any price, including unreasonable, for their housing, but growing size of Ontario Sunshine list is very disturbing. You know, those crooks lives somewhere.

I'd guess it's a little bit of everything. Some are over extended, and some can truly afford it.

Remember, the GTA is a prosperous region; lots of head offices that employ lots of execs. But there are also lots of ditch companies that employ lots of ditch diggers.

As for the draw being in Oakville...You can roll your eyes at it, and maybe rightfully so, but it's real. Especially for those who live there. And the north vs south Oakville class system is real as well.

@CJ: Read it aloud with a Russian accent. It's almost poetic.

You obviously don't even know what the term means, and have affirmed what I said to be true. But hey, good on ya for calling doctors, cops, and other government employees crooks. Next time your shutter finger gets cramped up, don't bother looking for help.

Now we are talking instead of just names calling. Doctors who are doing nothing, but sliding OHIP cards are crooks. Coops who are smuggling cheese from USA in police cars and ticketing people in the 50-60 km/h stretch of the road where is nothing even build yet are crooks. Public library workers with salary in the Sunshine list range are crooks.
My point was - where are way to many overpaid people in the province of Ontario and GTA in public sector with unsustainable salaries from private sector.
You went to flaming so quick on my comment and with so much time you have to kill for years here, it makes me wonder.

weird how this turned into some union/public sector bashing.

I was of the understanding that Mattamy, in a socialist move, supplied the pigs in the line with free troughs of slop during their wait.

Everyone ate out of them.

f****** handouts I tell ya!
