I have a question Norts, How many T Bones are caused by a red light runner as opposed to someone making a left in front of on coming traffic?

I have seen near misses at the intersection in question. People make a leisurely slow motion left turn like they would in any subdivision not realizing that cars are coming at them at 100kph.

OOOOOOOh, good one. Unfortunately Red light cameras will not address that, though you have identified a bigger problem deserving of more attention. An officer occasionally sitting at the intersection would certainly benefit both causes at the same time!
I'm just having some fun until Councillor Lambert delivers us the real data. Hoping one of "the staff" will chime in too.

How many rear ends are caused on red light intersections when the person in front of you slams the breaks on a yellow. There has to be a stat on that.

When I first arrived here from Quebec I had numerous close calls of rear ending as here the drivers have a tendency to apply their brakes when approaching an intersection where the light has turned yellow. In Quebec I yellow light meant step on it before it turns red. I don't like the idea of red light cameras. It's not the photo op I'm looking for.

I've been going through that intersection on weekdays for nearly 10 years. Accidents I remember are not usually at the Trafalgar and Derry intersection, and are usually snow/weather related rear-enders, or from someone turning left into traffic. Haven't read the Regional report, why was that intersection picked?

If I had to guess, and this is strictly a guess, that intersection probably has alot of cars per minute and would translate to the most potential to print money for the region.

Much cheaper to just reduce the speed limit on main thoroughfares and then collect the speeding tickets. The only hardware required is a sign.

None, but it's a pretty bad intersection.
Surpringly , I support a red light camera here.
Usually I'm against them.

There was an upside down vehicle at trafalgar and brittania... you can see the 4 wheels in the air just behind the police car.

I hope whoever was involved in that collision is alright.

If it turns out that someone running a red light was involved, then the anti-RLC people will say that it's only one collision, and how do you really know it was related to a red light, and would a camera have helped anyway, and a police officer there would have been better enforcement anyway.

If it turns out that there was no red light running involved, then the anti-RLC people will say that it goes to show that an RLC would be useless, and that increased police enforcement would have possibly helped, so that is the better option.

I don't know anything about the accident and I don't know what effect, if any at all, a RLC would have had.
