Hi Fred D

Sorry no updates. I understand the purchaser's consultants met with Town planning staff last week and there may be an application later this year. Just remember infill projects can take months to years for all the approvals and servicing. The last major infill project in town Drury Park took nearly 5 years from initial plan (1998) to the first occupancy (2003). The other three properties (I know the owners) are not hold outs, they are just not interested in selling and why should they?

The notices on the doors are Town orders to comply with the property standards by-law which I requested last summer when the purchased properties were becoming unkept and full of weeds and debris.

So since 'consultants' have met, there must be some idea what they are proposing to go there even if it takes a zillion years to come to fruition. The latest theory from my 16 yo little brother is word on the street is its Canada's largest mosque again.

Colin, can you put that one to rest too? I keep hearing that one as well, but I know the two Islamic associations in town have purchsed property at Hwy 25 south of Lower BaseLine (in Oakville) for the Big Mosque, and an industrial property on Esquesing Line they are raising funds to convert to a recreation center (not sure if it will also be a mosque). I know one of them operate the equivalent of a rectory on one of the Ontario street properties (the same group that's purchased the big acreage on Hwy 25) and suspect that's the source of this persistent rumour.

Hi Devious and Freemantrailfamily

I understand that people are more interested in the rumours than the fact that the Milton Muslim Association has already announced their new site on 14 acres of land at the south-east corner of Highway #25 and Henderson Road IN OAKVILLE which is on their website and also been covered in small local GMA papers such as the Globe and Mail (see attached links).

http://www.miltonmasjid.com/

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/tor ... le6734841/

Since the 8 land sales are now a matter of public record at the registry office which anyone can access. The properties on Ontario St. S. are being bought up be divisions of Bucci Homes who have built bungalows, semi-detached and townhouse style homes in the Burlington and Stoney Creek areas (see their website attached). Their designs are similar to those found in the Drury Park area with mostly low rise 1-2 floor semi-detached and townhouse designs for seniors.

http://www.buccihomes.com/index.html

I will be posting more information on this and other applications and hopefully dispel any other rumours that keep arising despite the facts.

ps. sorry no Costco either....

Hi all,

Just curious to know whats up with all the boarded houses on Bronte Rd. Is there a new development or the lost being sold. Fill us in if you know!

Hi Tristan

If you are referring to the three vacant boarded up house on Bronte Road in Oakville just south of the regional headquarters they are part of a larger application for a mixed commercial/office development which has been ongoing since 2006 and still has some outstanding issues. For everyone's information Bronte Road ends at Dundas St. in Oakville and becomes Regional Road #25 between Oakville and Milton, then Ontario St. North and South in Milton.

If you are referring to the six recently boarded up homes on Ontario St. South (Main St. East to Derry road) in Milton they are part of a future application for townhouses by a builder who should be submitting an application later this year.

Great. That means another light on Ontario St probably and a possible 2-3 mins added to the commute to the GO station. Less sleep = grumpy worker haha

I was just asked that question on the properties on Ontario St. Thank you Colin. But I have a concern.

I understand why builders are building homes... everyone is buying them in Milton regardless of location and price. I have said this before, Why approve housing on a busy street? Do businesses not benefit from better frontage and higher traffic areas? Can we not squeeze a little property tax on a business when they have better frontage?

Can the Town change the zoning or is because it was zoned residential 100 years ago, we can change it? Can't someone sit down and design a town?

Or Is building a town a case of first come first serve?

I would love to know.

Hi Wyl

Thanks for the comments and something for the planning committee and council to consider. For your information there is already a large commercial area just south of these properties including an 8 acre vacant car dealership which I understand could have an application next year for a multiple use commercial area which it is already zoned for including retail, office and residential uses in this secondary mixed use node. Check http://www.milton.ca for details under zoning maps and official plan.

From what I have seen from this builder and others who design this style of homes, none of the proposed homes would front onto Ontario street and there would be about 2-3 entrances similar to other townhouse groups in town and the Drury park condominiums. There will be a number of public meetings and I have asked staff to have the builder meet with concerned residents and councillors before the initial meeting similar to other builders who have modified their plans based on neighbours concerns.

Does anyone know what is going on with the boarded up houses on Ontario Street next to the old EC Drury?
Has a developer bought them or something? I think I counted 7 of them, mostly in a row.

Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt

Please read the previous posts on this thread which Fred D. and I have explained what is happening.

There is six boarded up homes with two more to be vacated soon. I understand the builder's consultants have been on site doing survey's and elevation work for drainage. There should be an initial application for bungalow and bungaloft townhouses similar to the Drury Park homes submitted later this year for the planning committee and council to review.

The town by-law enforcement staff have reminded the builder to maintain the property's to the Town's property standard's by-laws which they have been doing.

Hi Brenda2009

No, the initial report has not been filed yet. The builder is still doing a number of studies necessary for the application. The initial public report and presentation should be made later this year according to Bucci Homes staff I talked with and the technical report usually takes about 6-9 months depending the comments from the public and the several dozen agencies involved with this type of application.

You can see information on this and other applications at:
