90% of the window problems require the removal of the inside trim...and then foam insulation sprayed along the outer frame, the older (non energy star homes) would just string insulation along the frame, but with the energy star homes, spray foam is sprayed around the frame of the window, creating a nice seal which is done on the new energy star homes..........and as far as the door, alot of the time, there are gaps at the bottom of the door....and the weather stripping along the side fail to make contact with the door...you can buy weather stripping tape, that can be applied to the old stripping on the sides and top of the door creating a tight seal...a good handy man can tackle these jobs, but mattamy should take care of it at no charge

goodluck

We had the same problems with our front windows and the person that Mattamy sent out at first said there was no problem/nothing they could do. We complained again and finally my hubs said he worked SELLING windows and KNEW that SOMETHING was wrong and the window guy came and took the window out and found many broken pieces. Suffice to say it has made a difference, but my front windows are still drafty. As such, we refuse to move our son into his room until the weather warms up.

Good luck. Have you contacted TARION yet? I'm sure they would like to hear about this issue.

Nic

All the details I've written in my post is what is going on between me and the warranty department.

Yes the Pollard guy was here, and he said he couldn't do anything as it was Mattamy's installation problem.

Mattamy guy was also here, and he said it was manufacturer's fault, i.e. Pollard.
I've learned to never assume that Mattamy and the trades will properly coordinate/communicate between each other on complex follow-up issues. They might. But don't assume so. You have to "help" things along. If you don't follow-up on items like this, they could just sit there forever. We had a similar situation with our bricks in the back, i.e. initially a disagreement between Mattamy and the brick maker. We waited a couple months, called Mattamy back to see what progress they had made, and basically it was zero progress. Sometimes, nothing happens unless you follow-up continously, because communication can break down easily when it involves 3 or more parties (i.e. Mattamy, 1 or more external trades, and yourself the home owner).

I know it's not fair. It shouldn't be your job to coordinate/follow-up on items like this. Mattamy should be doing it. But if you have an issue that might involve finger pointing between multiple parties (i.e. in your case the installer versus the window-maker) you really have to try and step up and push things along.

anyone know what the manufacturer warranties are on our windows, outside of the Mattamy/Tarion warranty?? I have the same problem with th seals of mine, where there is not only a substantial draft, but when the wind blows, you can hear a kind of (sorry) farting noise from the window from the air blowing between the window and the seal or wall or whatever. I've been putting it off for a while, but it was freezing in our family room last night and I'd hate to see my heat and gas bill for this month when it comes in.....
