Why can't people go out and shovel, blow out, and de-ice their sidewalks? After the latest snow storm, I saw a guy come out of his garage, snow blow his driveway out, but not the sidewalk in front of his house. That sidewalk now has 2 inches of ice on it and not walkable. His driveway is clean. Now that side walk is on a school route and I think because of that, he thinks that the town should do it and not him. How lazy is that? He was out there anyway. He could have blown out the sidewalk. People had to walk on the roads because the sidewalks were worse than the roads. A large bag of salt is $6.

Question. If the sidewalk is on a school route, do you think that the homeowner or renter should leave it for the town to do or do you think that they should go out and blow, shovel or de-ice it themselves.

Be nice, clear your ice. Just like me.

my neighbour (who i'm attached to by the driveway) has yet to shovel his driveway this year. Including the pile of snow at the end of his drive way from the snowplow. We caught him using our drive way to pull into his, to avoid using his own.

Sure makes for exciting times when walking the dog twice a day... In addition to game of avoiding the melting dog poop.

Guess its a good workout for my knee stabilizers...

What the town should do is hire a bunch of high school kids and pay them $15 a house to go shovel/salt all the sidewalks, and then deliver a $30 bill to the homeowners.

It is brutal walking the kids to the bus stop and my daughter falling because some asshat can't salt/shovel his sidewalk. Last weekend was prime opportunity to work on it (I know.. my driveway is down to bare pavement now)..

!@$!

This is EXACTLY our situation too. Actually, its not exactly our situation because our neighbour once used a broom and tried to "sweep" the driveway. I don't even think they own a shovel.

I live on a property that has 130 feet of town sidewalk along the front. I always blow it out and de-ice. I also blow out my neighbour's sidewalk on the left side of my property and 2 neighbour's on the right side as they are elderly.

I wish you lived in my area that are clearing sidewalks.

I walk my kids to the bus stop every day.. and have to walk on skating rinks because some douchebag can't buy salt or some alternative.

I get it.. you could be

> have a bad back

but i really think most are
> cheap
> lazy

Its one thing to slack on your driveway, but really ... the sidewalk is part of the program when you buy such a house.

I hate doing it, but when my daughter fell on her face (and then apologized to me for falling.. poor kiddo.) I went to the ToM 'rat out your neighbour' website (http://www.milton.ca/en/townhall/bylawenforcement.asp) Not sure if that will even yield any action.. did it noon-time yesterday and no change today.

I've solved it temporarily.. through that section my kid just holds onto the stroller for dear life.. but I almost fell today..

Nice

There's a corner house in my hood that doesn't clear his sidewalk and its the full length of his property. The mailbox is also on that side. Very annoying and inconsiderate. I don't get why you'd pay extra for the corner lot and not maintain it.

Is there even a bylaw for clearing snow/ice on your sidewalk or is it just a courtesy thing?

There are 2 bylaw officers handling hundreds of billions and trillions of complaints. I doubt there will be a follow up regarding the icing issue on Douchebag Lane.
