Im trying to replace the light fixture above the kitchen island. It is one with the three prongs (one that pulls out for removing the cover.

I removed the 2 long screws thinking the fixture would come off...but this thing is not budging. Not even a wiggle. Am I missing something here ? I even tried sticking a knife in between and prying it off...but absolutely no luck.

Has anyone removed these ? Can you offer me some suggestions to get it off. Im also trying not to create more work by damaging the paint and drywall around the fixture.

There may be a nut in the centre as well, it's about 3/8-1/2" in diameter and fairly thin. If you push up near the centre of the fixture you should be able to spin it off by hand.

There could be a big nail on top of the box, nailed to joist. I would suggest turn off the breaker
make a little room near wood side and use nose plier or any other tool to remove the nail. let me know if you need help.
In some cases we need cut dry wall to reach the mail which is going across on top of the box.

hope it will help

I've removed many during staging set-ups.... There is another screw hiding under the insulation. Remove that and then knock the sides with a hammer a few times to loosen it from the paint and you should be good.

I'd be happy to swing by and give you a hand during the week if you need some help.

It's nice to see neighbours who would extend an extra mile to help a total stranger. Cheers!

+ 1 ^^^^^^

Thanks for the replies folks. Turns out it was just stuck to the paint. Tried an exacto knife (more patiently this time) and the fixture just popped right off.
