although i do have a few old flip phones lying around i use for travel and back up..

go to http://www.crackberry.com, androidcentral.com or any other tech related forum and you will see there are people that do this more often then u think ; >

some people have 3-5 phones...

i actually have 3 phones
- note 3
- z30
- HTC M8

thinking of selling my HTC M8 to get the
oneplus.net/one AND the Nexus 5, since each device is $349....

it's my vice... go to home depot and i don't understand people that spend $$$$$$ on gardening ... but they have their things.. i have mine ; >

haha good one...

but i don;t feel like giving the phone companies what they want... i haven't signed a contract in 6 years... and if you keep your phone for more then 2 years then kudos to you cause i'm a tech junkie that needs the latest and greatest ... i need to be able to code my own hacks, change preferences beyond what the device lets me.. android is a resource hog and probably not as optimized as iOS but it's SURE is hell of a lot less restrictive!

i sell my phones for top dollar cause they are only 6 months old.. and that gives me the money to buy the latest model full price with no loss usually.. if anything $50-100 bux out of pocket.. so technically i am paying LESS then you when you sign a 2-3 year contract where ur licking the balls of the carriers paying them $250+tax and activation + your monthly bill...oh wait they let you upgrade whenever you want now!!! well that's such a scam cause you gotta pay an UPGRADE FEE of $20 per month left on your contract then the price of the discounted phone price which will then osts you just as much as the phone at full price AND you have to sign a contract!! funny funny... didn't poeple know Rogers Retention used to let you upgrade whenver you wanted if you complained enough with no upgrade fees...

with no contract i can leave Rogers whenever i want.. and being with them the last 15 years since high school when they were Rogers AT&T so my plan is pretty sweet.. ..it sucks that Rogers doesn't have internet in Milton cause having everything with them was a bonus..

and yah Apple has good build quality... but their User Experience is HORRIBLE!! the fact that u can't use your device as a mass storage device and drag and drop files into and out of the built in memory (cause they don't have expandable memory) without itunes is just ridiculous... so i don't consider that a quality device all around.. just cause it looks nice and feels nice doesn't mean it does what a user wants..

but maybe some folks are satisfied with apps, a 4 inch screen (if u have the 5 or 5s) or a 3.5 in screen, low resolution compared to anything else out there.. and buying adapters to make sure they work with every other universal product out there... lightning adapter?? seriously? that's just Apple saying "hey this is our way of tricking you to make sure you CANNOT use any other companies charging cables and have to pay $30 for it form us to get a proper one that won't fry your phone"

so i'll enjoy my new device every 6 months contract free and looking forward to the next model in another 6 months.

/rant

youre contract free and have been with rogers for 15 years. whats the point?

So true. My Windows laptops each lasted me one year. Bought my macbook pro, had it two years and have zero desire or need for an upgrade.

You get what you pay for.

Uhh... I've never replaced any of my windows devices in 1 year... I'm writing this on a 2 year old Lenovo Ultra Small Form Factor machine that needs not a damn thing... Or I could go upstairs and write it from my kids 4 year old HP all in one 23" machine, that does everything that we ask it to... Or I could go to my work Dell machine and do the same, which is a little under 3 years old... Or I could go to my 5 year old machine which now lives as my media server in the basement, to do the same thing...

the point is .. it's a hobby to get a new device.. people might not find it necessary to replace a device that works perfectly fine..
it makes sense... but I get bored and I need a phone or device to hack around...

like I said why do people garden
why do people collect stamps?

pete I love reading your responses they make my day ; > seriously.. not being sarcastic..

Because he doesn't "lick the balls of the carriers." This is important, somehow. I also didn't realize I was on a contract and had a shitty plan. Glad he pointed that out to me

Also because he sells his old phones and continues to buy brand new ones, there's no way they ever end up in the landfill. He's figured out a magical way of consuming hazardous e-waste products without any environmental ramifications whatsoever. Guy should get invited for a TED talk.

yes Princess that is the point... I refuse to pay the carriers any more then the monthly cost of my plan...
the 15 years gets me a good plan with 6gb of data and they will most likely change what I need when I need it

it's funny cause I am giving a TED talk soon.. just not on this stuff ; >

You're not Apple's demographic for sure. Sounds like you are in the same camp that is going to compare an Apple laptop to a PC laptop and decide based on speed/capacity specs alone and come to the conclusion that the Apple product is severely overpriced. That is ok. Apple's products are priced at a premium for reasons beyond specifications. There is an evident additional attention to design, aesthetics and manufacturing process that other companies don't spend near the investment in. To some this doesn't matter, to others it ads value. This adds both considerable cost and perceived value.

Beyond the hardware, the OS for many is a big selling point and could be the number one deciding factor. I use a Macbook and MacPro everyday for work, I am critical of certain aspects of their business just as much as I praise other aspects. I applaud them for attempting to build well designed products with a bit more of a lifespan though—I've had my iMac since 2008 and it still runs well especially considering it wasn't that powerful of a computer to begin with. I also still have a non-solid state 80gb iPod which works great from 2004. Beats (no pun intended) filling a landfill up with electronics every 6 months.

#doyouevenlift made me laugh :)

Because people will pay for it. That's it. It's for no other reason. Apple have the best ad men in the business.

I've had my MacBook since 06 and it flies, I enjoy taking care of it and it's sparkling. People who need new devices because they are bored need to lift their head from a screen and go outside and use words to communicate to others rather than their fingers.

I really wonder what you guys have been doing with your windows laptop? My windows based laptops last me atleast 3-4 years ... when I buy, I buy top of the line, so they can go an extra mile. Trust me, I am not an email/internet only user - I am a developer, and know my computer stuff, so I really think you need to buy good stuff ... be it windows or apple based items. I have no hate for apple stuff. They make good quality items, no doubt, but are there better or equally better things out there? The answer is Yes.

It is more complicated than that, but ok.

No point making the case for Apple. Whatever they want to think to justify their purchase of Windows junk is fine with me. No biggie!
