i happened to go to the council meeting in milton this past monday and was glad to see Colin Best and Day and other express thier concerns to Transcanada energy, who' presentation was very weak and DID NOT ADDRESS FULLY ANY OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS RAISED...
i would strongly advice milton community to get involved, otherwise, the photo in the link provided will be what you see as you are taking in the vieWs from the trails the escarpment has to offer

we have a right to deal with this. it does not matter if you smoke or drive a car on the 401...

I understand that there are many things worst than this proposal however most of those things are already here. Why add to it. We can not move the 401 to reduce pollution so we accept it. We may not like it. This power plant can be stopped with the push of the masses.

If you want the power plant. That is good for you and you are entitled to that view. Anybody against it is also entitled to their views.

From a statistical standpoint, according to Natural Resources Canada, residential housing accounts for about 16 per cent of total energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. So while every sector has to do its part, it's the industrial and transportation sectors that account for two-thirds of total consumption and emissions, where a larger part of the energy and emissions savings need to come from.

Within the residential sector, it's the massive stock of older, existing homes where the most energy is being wasted.

As federal Natural Resources Minister Gary Lunn recently pointed out, "There are more than 13 million homes in this country. Only 1 to 2 per cent of Canada's housing supply is built new each year. Therefore, an important way to reduce household energy use is to make existing Canadian homes more energy efficient."

Yes, the guidelines are a tiny first step, but have you ever noticed how fast infants progress from crawling backwards to toddling forwards to racing around the house?

In some respects, the guidelines are a focal point and tool for our builder associations across Canada to encourage all builders to follow along a path that many have already embarked upon.

As for incentives, the federal government's EcoEnergy retrofit program is a great initiative, well targeted at existing housing.

With respect to building code changes, the provincial government has just mandated major energy efficiency enhancements through the Ontario building code.

Now, as for the smiling photo, don't let it fool you. I take my responsibilities as president of our industry association very seriously, and believe me, our industry takes its corporate social responsibility very seriously, too. So if sustainable development and green building sparks a building boom, then I'll have plenty of reason to smile – and we can all enjoy the benefits.

I am a new member of this forum, new resident of Milton and former long-time resident of Halton Hills..... Based on what I have read, heard and seen, I think its reasonable to say the community is concerned about having this mega power plant next door. I believe we ALL should be, although I also believe its too late to do anything about it. We are told our concerns about our health and well-being as a result of combustion by-products, noise and electromagnetic radiation are being dealt with. Do we believe that total certainty??

The root cause of this problem goes back to the beginning and how the decision was made to locate this facility in our backyards. TCE is only doing what they have been hired to do and they in turn have already spent a huge amount of money, have hired the experts and will take the heat to get this facility built. OPA and our provincial government to be more exact, are the culprits. Another example of big business and big government stepping all over this great little community in the name of growth and prosperity?

I agree with MP, I think what is done is done. It will be built. However, I'm more than willing to back those that don't want the plant here, sure, give me a petition to sign too, I'll sign it. I'm just not going to make it my life....I have a job and a life. I wish all of you luck and if it doesnt' work out, what options are left? Live with it or move I suppose. Am I right?

i will confirm if its a done deal , but i dont think it is as there were alot of unresolved issues as of the last town meeting, and as well with the region..,also, so until ground is broken, there still is time....email Ted Chudliegh and voice your opposition...this is a lose lose proposal...

I can confirm that it is a done deal. TCPL has been awarded the contract, and if the Municipalities and Region oppose the Province will step in and over ride them (there is draft legislation giving the Province this power in circulation right now).

What can be done is making sure that the facility has as minimal an impact as possible.

Maybe we could have colin B weigh in on this and tell us what we can do, if anything at all, if we are opposed to the buidling of this facility. I know I wouldnt want it if we could stop it.
