Which Cable Box do you have? I've got the DCT6200 and I connect to my TV using the Component (Y Pb Pr) connections. I find the SD very good.

Did you verify the configuration for the output options of the Cable Box? The default for a 4:3 ratio SD program is 480i which without any up conversion may not look too good on your TV.

It can be kind of confusing trying to figure out if you want the Cable Box to up convert SD for you or if you connect through an Audio-Video Receiver some of them can up convert or some TV's can up convert as well.

No matter what, the TV has to convert the signal that it gets to whatever the native resolution is for its display.

Interesting that they would install something that would impede their service..

It should have been one of these series:

I use the same ones, work great.

On a side note on the same topic, if any of you have the Motorola 6416 (PVR with HD) and are using HD and find the SD is poor quality, I did a lot of research and they trick that made a HUGE difference for me and was recommended by many is turning off the STB's up conversion and letting the TV do it. Passing the raw SD signal to my TV and letting it upconvert works far better than having the STB try to do it and then my TV trying to do it more.

Yes I am. As far as I know the scenario I mention ONLY applies to HDMI setup
