Hi,

Can anyone recommend a registered and licensed speech pathologist for my toddler? My insurance does cover this and so I am willing to go to a private practicioner. I am hoping to find someone in Mississauga just so it is easier to schedule appointments. Please PM me if you have a good reference. Thanks!

Ask you family Doctor, they should be able to help.

My son goes to one in Oakville and it is free from the region but was based on a Doctors assesment adn referall.

Good luck! It really helped my son who lost a lot of pronunciation ability while battling ear infections and waiting 7 months to get tubes in his ears finally! Got to love the system!

I think this is where he goes

Erinoak in Mississauga is where my son goes.. but it's paid for by OHIP so the waiting list is 7mths long for preschoolers.
it sounds like you are looking for someone private so you don't have to wait that long? Some of the pathologists there may work privately too. just a thought...

She does good work, but not so convenient.

Yes, I was looking for a private speech pathologist. My son is on the waiting list for Erinoak but I don't really want to wait 5-7 months. My family doctor has only dealt with the public speech clinics and can not neccesarily recommend anyone. Since my insurance carrier as well as my husband's covers speech therapy, I'd rather get an early assessment for my son. I will contact OSLA for a referal but my preference is to get a referal from someone wo actually has experience with the speech pathologist.

Thanks for all your feedback.

We take my toddler to the HearSay Clinic in Milton for Private Therapy for a speech delay. We did go to Erin Oak until I found out that I too had coverage through insurance. I know you are looking in Mississauga, but if you don't find anything you could consider HearSay. We really like it there.

I second Hearsay, they are wonderful there. I can't believe the imrovement we saw in our son after he started his private therapy with them.

For my2boyz and DSTR,

Thanks for your recommendation about HearSay. I will call them and book an appointment. Was there a particular speech pathologist whom you dealt with, just in case there are more than one?

They are all really good there including the receptionist.
Yvonee did his assesment, Nancy did individual sessions with us and starting next week we will be doing a group session with some other kids lead by Yvonne. How old is your child?

For DSTR.
My son is 18 months old and my doctor is concerned about his delay in speech development. I was told that every child develops at his/her own rate but for my own peace of mind, I would like an assesment done as soon as possible.

We did the same thing....
my son is just 2 years now, but at around 20 months we had him get assested. We knew he would talk eventually too, but it was for our own peace of mind to give him every advantage. Especially since he will be in a preschool setting before you know it.
Who knows...maybe they will be in the same group session.

Yvonne did all my sons sessions, he was older...just turned 4 and his problem was with articulation. The first few sessions she actually came to our house because they hadn't opened their clinic yet. I had originally had him assessed at Halton Hills Speech in Georgetown but was so disgusted by the pathologist there that I never went back. Yvonne and her whole staff are amazing and my son loved her. She has young children herself so she relates well to them.

We also did a group session with Yvonne and it was great as well. It was a music/speech program.
