Rumour is the Metro is closing can anyone confirm this? If so what do you think should go in there weather it be another grocery store or something else?

Really? They looked pretty stocked when I was there on Sunday and yesterday night. I hope they don't close. Sure, it's a little pricier there, but there's a price for convenience, keeping the lights on, and ahem, no price matching, so for me, it's become an important fixture of the Original HV neighbourhood.

Surprisingly, their pizza is really good ! I also like that the store is always well-lit unlike the new Sobey's and their dim produce section. Maybe they made it like that so can't see any imperfections in the produce as easily?

Did you just suggest that Metro has quality produce?

No, I did not as I did not mention Metro's produce, but I do get their bananas which is OK, navel oranges, and sometimes apples, but the apples are usually too ripe so it's hit and miss. No vegetables from there unless it's those bagged salads.

Man... I really hope this is not true. I love the Metro, its location, and its hours.

Milton is such a weird place!!! So many people, so much disposable income - yet no business can seem to survive that's not a coffee place or the lousy Walmart.

Soon that will be the ONLY place to go in town. We're going to be a Walmart town. Like one of those shiddy small US bumpkin towns where the Walmart is the only place to get anything.

Once again... I hate all of you!

Never a huge fan of Metro but can see the convenience loss to folks in SE Milton. When we lived on the east end of town we went about 5-10 times and found it overpriced with lousy quality. Not sure if that's changed in the last couple years.

Actually the last time we stopped by there a year or so ago, my wife got hit on my Martin Prince, so that was a highlight.

i think i can count the amount of times i've been to the walmart in milton on one hand (2 years time).
never been to the metro, i think i've been to sobeys once. usually go to the superstore.
the reason a lot of shops can't stay open is because their prices are too high for what you are getting.
if you open a restaurant, put out quality at a good price. don't put a price similar to others and just have mediocre food.

Plans show a Freshco being built across the street. Would that be to soften the impact of future marketing decisions?

come on people we can do better than this!

no matter what the thread there are numerous bad jokes about price matching and this one is actually about a grocery store and only 1 reference to price matching??? Only 1??

where are all the people who got stuffed in their lockers in high school when you need them?

I hate Metro. I hope that place burns. It’s a complete ripoff, with terrible product and service.

Most seem to agree. I never see people in there doing a “big shop”. It’s all people grabbing a few items because it’s the only grocery store on that end of town.

I think they are restructuring. Some stores will close, some will become Food Basics, etc. 15 stores are being closed in Ontario out of 100s of Ontario locations but they don't say which stores. I think 4 or 5 have closed/been converted already. They were going to partner with Target in Quebec but they can't really do that anymore.

I heard something about another Metro opening up in Milton to replace the current one but that makes no sense. Why would Metro Inc. waste money on another location in the same town and close the current one which is already in a great location?

What was before Metro here? AP? If closing, they will be reopening with something else.
It is popular spot with idiots parking at front drive and going shopping, while where are parking just beside.
They have weird fresh bread policy at the store, it is removed at 7PM often.

screw Metro. SOBEYS ALL THE WAY
i live close to Metro but i will drive the extra 3 minutes up LSL to go to Sobeys. The only thing i would miss is being able to hit a wine store on the way home from work

my last straw with Metro was doing a full grocery shop around 11p.m. one night (i like to avoid children and crowds) and two things happened: 1. check out guy would not open a lane for me..i had to use the self scan for $200 worth of groceries..of which 50% were produce. the guy just stood at the post and watched me 2. floor cleaners were in the store and blocked off three isles for 15 minutes for the floor to dry. i understand they have a job to do but there must be a better way.

Meh, metro has always been overpriced and solely been visited for convenience. I didn't know but am not shocked that they are owned by the same company as food basics. Only thing they had going for them was a sweet deli counter, which food basics lacked. Now that I know they're a food basics company, I won't go there for anything.
